• Commanders' Jeremy McNichols: Staying in Washington

  McNichols agreed to a one-year deal with Washington on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. McNichols mostly served as the No. 3 running back for the Commanders in 2024 behind Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler, and he'll likely do the same in 2025. McNichols finished the 2024 regular season with 55 carries for 261 yards and four touchdowns while adding nine catches (on 12 targets) for 27 yards and 164 kick return yards.

  McNichols rushed once for five yards and caught two of three targets for five yards in Sunday's 30-24 win over the Falcons. McNichols operated as the Commanders' No. 2 running back behind Brian Robinson, playing just 22 of Washington's 83 offensive snaps Sunday. The 29-year-old running back has not been involved much on the ground lately, handling just five total carries since the Week 14 bye. Based on his limited usage, McNichols should not be relied upon for fantasy when the Commanders host the Cowboys in Week 18.

  McNichols rushed twice for three yards and caught all four of his targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 36-33 win over the Eagles. McNichols' four targets, four catches and 15 receiving yards were all season highs in each category. The fourth-year running back played 19 of the Commanders' 68 offensive snaps, behind starter Brian Robinson (43) and ahead of Chris Rodriguez (7). Despite his uptick in usage in the passing game in Week 16, McNichols does not see enough consistent usage to be a viable fantasy option. The 28-year-old will look to contribute more on offense when the Commanders host the Falcons in Week 17.

  McNichols rushed twice for four yards and caught one of his two targets for zero yards in Sunday's 20-19 win over the Saints. McNichols played 22 of the Commanders' 78 offensive snaps Sunday, behind starter Brian Robinson (58) and well ahead of Chris Rodriguez (3). With Austin Ekeler (concussion) on injured reserve, the 28-year-old McNichols continues to operate as the team's primary backup out of the backfield, but his two rushes accounted for his lowest carry total since Week 8. The veteran running back will continue to see limited opportunities in Washington's offense as long as Robinson remains healthy. McNichols and the Commanders will host the Eagles in Week 16.

  McNichols took six carries for 32 yards in a 42-19 win over the Titans on Sunday. McNichols didn't benefit much from Austin Ekeler's absence due to a concussion, with Brian Robinson getting most of the backfield touches early in the game and Chris Rodriguez then taking 11 carries during the fourth quarter. McNichols played 25 percent of snaps, well behind Robinson (47 percent) and slightly behind Rodriguez (28 percent), although the latter mostly played in the fourth quarter of a blowout. Ekeler will miss at least three more games after Washington's Week 14 bye, but any considerable fantasy value for McNichols might also require Robinson missing time.

McNichols figures to work in the change-of-pace role usually filled by Ekeler when Washington's backfield is at full strength, though Chris Rodriguez could also enter the backfield mix.

  Brian Robinson Jr. (ankle) and Austin Ekeler (concussion) were both injured in Week 12 against Dallas, and if both are out in Week 13 against Tennessee, then McNichols could be a flex option in all leagues. He hasn't had more than eight carries in any game this season, and he only has two catches on three targets. But he could be looking at 15-20 total touches if Robinson and Ekeler are out, which is why he should be added for at least 10 percent of your remaining FAB. Just keep in mind that the matchup with the Titans won't be easy since Tennessee has shut down J.K. Dobbins, Aaron Jones, and Joe Mixon in the past three games, holding all of them to 9.5 PPR points or less in each outing.

• Commanders' Jeremy McNichols: Week 13 Adds (RB Preview)

  If both Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler miss Week 13, then Jeremy McNichols will be my favorite running back available off the waiver wire, despite an awful matchup against the Tennessee Titans. McNichols has averaged 4.9 yards per carry this season and scored four touchdowns on just 44 attempts. It's a small sample size, but his 18.2% avoid rate is actually better than Robinson or Ekeler. The key will be whether he gets work in the passing game, and as of now there isn't another back on the roster I see as more likely. McNichols earned 38 targets back in 2021 with the Titans, so he's not foreign to the role.

  We'll see if Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) can return in Week 11 at Philadelphia. He was listed as limited on Monday's estimated injury report for Thursday's game. If Robinson is out for the third game in a row, we'll continue to play the guessing game of which Washington running back to use in tandem with Austin Ekeler. I'll lean toward McNichols over Chris Rodriguez Jr. (2 percent rostered), but neither is worth trusting against the Eagles. It's a tough matchup, and Ekeler is the only one with guaranteed touches. That said, in deeper leagues, you might be stuck, so spend 1 percent of your remaining FAB on McNichols first and then Rodriguez if needed.

Brian Thomas (58 percent of snaps) and Austin Ekeler (47 percent of snaps) remain the clear top options in the Commanders' backfield, but if either misses time, McNichols will be first in line for added opportunities. From Week 4 to Week 7, McNichols rushed for at least 40 yards in three of four contests.

If Robinson remains out again in Week 7 against the Panthers then I like McNichols as a flex option since he'll continue to work in tandem with Austin Ekeler. Carolina is No. 1 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs, and McNichols is worth adding for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.

  McNichols took two carries for nine yards in a 30-23 loss to Baltimore on Sunday. McNichols had 118 total yards and three TDs on 15 touches over the previous two games, taking on extra work with Austin Ekeler and then Brian Robinson (knee) limited/absent due to injuries. Robinson missed Sunday's game in Baltimore, but the Commanders didn't attempt many rushes against a stout run defense, and McNichols finished without a target despite playing 39 percent of snaps and running 17 routes (just three fewer than Ekeler). McNichols will almost certainly get more touches if Robinson misses another contest Week 7 against Carolina, but Ekeler would still be the much safer bet for volume and production.

Even with Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler both healthy, McNichols saw a significant workload in the second half of Sunday's rout, capping his day with a three-yard TD run in the third quarter. The Commanders' offense has been potent enough of late that there could be touches available for all three RBs, and McNichols has gotten into the end zone three times in the last two contests, but he's still third in the backfield pecking order heading into a Week 6 meeting with the Ravens.

McNichols logged eight snaps of emergency duty in the Week 3 win over the Bengals on Monday night after Ekeler was forced from the contest. The 2017 fifth-round pick of the Buccaneers has bounced around the NFL over the last seven-plus seasons and has just 91 career carries across 38 regular-season contests, so the threat he represents to lead back Brian Robinson's workload is virtually non-existent. McNichols is a capable pass catcher, however, so he could conceivably have some PPR value in very deep leagues if the Commanders trail in the second half and are forced into frequent passing situations.

McNichols and Chris Rodriguez split snaps throughout the first half, after Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler were removed following the opening drive. It's a good sign for McNichols' chances of at least earning a spot on the practice squad, at which point he could be the injury replacement for Ekeler (while Rodriguez would be the natural fit to fill in for Robinson). McNichols spent most of last year on San Francisco's practice squad, and he's bounced around the league as a passing-down back and special-teams player ever since the Buccaneers took him in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
