Player Outlook
Until he's fully cleared to return to action, we are not drafting Murray as anything more than a backup QB in a one-QB league and no earlier than the double-digit rounds. The Cardinals announced on Aug. 28 that Murray will begin the season on the PUP list, meaning he will miss at least four games. Further, in what is a rebuilding year in Arizona, how much will the Cardinals choose to play Murray at all in 2023? It's a fair question since Murray's ACL injury happened in December and he'll be learning a new offense and be without his No. 1 wide receiver, DeAndre Hopkins. The injury also means we shouldn't expect as much rushing from Murray this year when and if he returns, and he hasn't been great as a passer without Hopkins. All those things being said, Murray still has top-five upside when he's healthy and should still be valued as a top-10 QB in Dynasty. He's an excellent buy candidate for rebuilding teams.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: QBs to Sit

Murray has performed well in his comeback from last year's torn ACL with at least 22.4 Fantasy points in two of three games this season. He's rushed for a touchdown in each outing, and he has two contests with at least 33 rushing yards. He's more of a bust alert than a sit in Week 13, but I don't love this matchup for him at Pittsburgh. The Steelers have only allowed one quarterback to score more than 16.7 Fantasy points since Week 4, including matchups with Lamar Jackson and Trevor Lawrence, and Pittsburgh's pass rush should be a problem for Murray. I would only start him in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues in Week 13.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Two total touchdowns in loss

Murray completed 27 of 45 passes for 256 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions and added a two-yard score on his only rush in the Cardinals' 37-14 loss to the Rams on Sunday. Murray's final stat line was perfectly serviceable from a fantasy perspective, but as the final score indicates, it didn't translate the same way on the field. Murray was able to pad his numbers late with a 10-play, 75-yard scoring after the game was already decided, and he did manage to record both a passing and rushing touchdown for the 18th time in his career. Murray has thrown for over 200 yards in each of his first three games of the season, but his almost complete lack of rushing yardage Sunday dragged down his overall fantasy ceiling for the afternoon. Murray and the Cardinals will look to regroup in a Week 13 road matchup against the Steelers.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Sleeper QBs

Murray seems all the way back from last year's torn ACL, and he just scored 23.7 Fantasy points at Houston in Week 11. He's now run for 84 yards and two touchdowns in his first two games this season, and that's a great sign that there's no restrictions on his movement. This week, Murray faces a Rams defense that has struggled with mobile quarterbacks, as Anthony Richardson, Jalen Hurts and Joshua Dobbs, when he was starting for the Cardinals in Week 6, all had at least 47 yards on the ground. Richardson and Hurts each scored at least 29.3 Fantasy points against the Rams, and Los Angeles is tied for the NFL lead with four rushing touchdowns allowed to quarterbacks.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Solid showing in Week 11 loss

Murray completed 20 of 30 passes for 214 yards with one touchdown and one interception and rushed seven times for 51 yards and a score in the Cardinals' 21-16 loss to the Texans on Sunday. He also committed a fumble recovered by Arizona. Murray's numbers through the air were about average in his second game of the season, but the pair of touchdowns he had a hand in helped him to a solid fantasy day overall. Murray first struck through the air via a 48-yard touchdown pass to Rondale Moore to cap off a quick three-play opening drive for Arizona, and he then added a one-yard rushing score of his own for the final points of the day for either squad. Murray connected with eight different targets overall against a tough Texans defense, and he'll draw what could be a more palatable matchup at home against the division-rival Rams in Week 12.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

Murray's in a good spot: He played mostly well last week, shook off some cobwebs, and now will take on what feels like an equally favorable matchup this Sunday. He should have had well over 20 Fantasy points last week -- he's a safe bet to get there this week. I'd start him over Jared Goff, Justin Fields and Sam Howell.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: QBs to Start

Murray played well in his return to action in Week 10 against Atlanta, and his comeback from last year's ACL tear should be a successful one. While he only scored 17.3 Fantasy points against the Falcons, Marquise Brown and Michael Wilson could have caught touchdowns to make Murray's stat line look dramatically better. The exciting thing for Murray was he ran for 33 yards and a rushing touchdown, and his rushing prowess is a big key to his Fantasy success. I like him as a low-end starter this week against the Texans in a potential shootout with C.J. Stroud, and Houston has allowed Baker Mayfield and Joe Burrow to each score at least 23 Fantasy points in the past two weeks.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Passes test in season debut

Murray completed 19 of 32 passes for 249 yards, no touchdowns and one interception and also had six carries for 33 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's 25-23 win against the Falcons. In his first game action in exactly 11 months, Murray looked like his normal dynamic self, especially on back-to-back scrambles late in the first half that culminated with a six-yard TD run. He also displayed an impressive rapport with second-year tight end Trey McBride, who hauled in eight of nine targets for 131 yards. Now that he's proved the health of his right knee following last season's ACL tear, Murray will set his sights on next Sunday's road matchup with a Texans defense that has given up the eighth-highest yards per attempt (7.5) to opposing quarterbacks in the current campaign.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Sit Him (Lineup Decisions)

If Murray were playing a tougher matchup there's no way you could trust him. But even in what has been a great matchup for mediocre quarterbacks, Murray feels tough to trust because it's his first taste of game action in a year with a new offense and new playcaller. We'll know pretty quickly on game day if he won't run like he used to, and if he doesn't then his path to being a great Fantasy passer will be narrow. He's good as a bye-week replacement but not a season-long solution, nor is he worth trusting for a big game in this spot. I'd put Joshua Dobbs, Geno Smith and Trevor Lawrence over Murray, but I don't mind him over Derek Carr, Deshaun Watson or Gardner Minshew.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Confirmed as Week 10 starter

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said Friday that Murray will start Sunday's game against the Falcons, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports. The Cardinals have delayed Murray's return for a couple weeks now but will put him back under center after a disastrous outing from rookie QB Clayton Tune in the Week 9 loss to Cleveland. While it's unclear if he'll initially be as much of a rushing threat as he was in past seasons, Murray at least figures to help the Arizona passing game and offers hope for any fantasy managers counting on WR Marquise Brown or TE Trey McBride. The return to action for Murray comes exactly 11 months after he suffered an ACL tear Dec. 12 last year.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Avoids injury report

Murray (knee) isn't listed Wednesday on the Cardinals' first Week 10 injury report, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports. As was the case on four of the team's previous six practice reports, Murray wasn't included among his injured teammates. And on the other two, he was listed as a full participant to begin prep for both Weeks 8 and 9. The Cardinals officially activated Murray from the reserve/PUP list Tuesday, and his absence from the Week 10 injury report one day later indicates he's essentially in the clear to play for the first time since tearing the ACL in his right knee Dec. 12 of last season. Head coach Jonathan Gannon already indicated that he expects Murray to start this Sunday against the Falcons, though the quarterback's availability may not be confirmed until after Friday's practice.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Back on active roster

The Cardinals activated Murray (knee) from the reserve/PUP list Tuesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports. Murray is closing in on his return from a torn ACL in his right knee that he suffered Dec. 12 of last season. Over the past two weeks, he was listed as doubtful to play in Week 8 and then questionable to suit up in Week 9, but Arizona elected not to activate him for either game. Murray seems on track to make his season debut Sunday against the Falcons.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: On track for Week 10 start

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said that Murray (knee) will start Sunday's game against the Falcons if the quarterback fares well while taking first-team reps in practice this week, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports. Gannon added that the Cardinals will formally add Murray back to the 53-man roster Wednesday, when his 21-day evaluation window for a return from the reserve/PUP list will come to a close. He'll then step back on the practice field later that day, working with the first-team offense after he had previously been throwing passes to members of the practice squad for most of the past two weeks. Expect Gannon to announce an official decision on a Week 10 starter following Friday's practice, but Murray hasn't hit any snags in his recovery from a torn ACL since he resumed working out with Arizona and should be ready to hit the ground running this weekend. Given that Murray will be returning from major knee surgery, however, it's possible that the Cardinals exercise some caution with the dual-threat quarterback's workload as a rusher compared to previous seasons.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Not listed on injury report

Murray (knee) was removed from the Cardinals' injury report Thursday but remains on the reserve/PUP list, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports. Like he did one week ago, Murray followed up a full practice Wednesday with no listing one day later. Last week, though, he ended up being doubtful to play this past Sunday against the Ravens, and the Cardinals didn't activate him ahead of that contest. It remains to be seen how Arizona lists Murray on the team's final Week 9 injury report Friday, but it could be telling for his chances to make his season debut Sunday at Cleveland. He's firmly in the mix to do so after the team dealt Joshua Dobbs to the Vikings on Tuesday, but fifth-round rookie Clayton Tune has been getting the first-team reps this week, while Murray again is throwing passes to members of the practice squad. Ultimately, the Cards will need to activate him from the reserve/PUP list by Saturday afternoon in order for him to have a chance to play Sunday.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Won't start before Week 10

Murray (knee) won't start in Week 9 against the Browns, and coach Jonathan Gannon said "we'll see" after Sunday's 31-24 loss to the Ravens when asked if Murray would start in Week 10 against the Falcons, Tyler Drake of Arizona Sports reports. Murray returned to practice and had his 21-day window to rejoin the active roster opened ahead of the loss to the Ravens, but he remains on the PUP list. Gannon has named Joshua Dobbs the starter for Week 9, and while it's possible that the Cardinals will activate Murray as the backup against the Browns, such a scenario is unlikely. Arizona has little incentive to rush the starting quarterback's return considering the Cardinals are now 1-7 after Sunday's loss.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Listed as doubtful on final report

Murray (knee) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against Baltimore, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports. The Cardinals are no longer listing Murray with a knee injury but nonetheless consider him unlikely to be activated from the PUP list ahead of Sunday's game. The team's decision to give Murray the doubtful designation presumably means that the 2019 No. 1 overall pick needs another week or two to prepare for his 2023 debut, thus giving Joshua Dobbs another shot to start at quarterback for a struggling offense. Murray was a full participant in practice throughout the week, working with the scout team during the media-access portions of practices.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Gets removed from injury report

Murray (knee) isn't listed on Thursday's injury report but remains on the reserve/PUP list, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. Murray has been practicing for a little more than one week, but after logging a full session Wednesday, he now isn't being limited by the torn ACL that he suffered in his right knee Dec. 12 of last season. That's not to say the Cardinals will activate him from the PUP list ahead of Sunday's game against the Ravens, especially because his current on-field work is happening with wide receivers and tight ends on the team's practice squad, per GoPHNX.com. Still, Arizona has until Saturday afternoon to make a decision on Murray's availability for Week 8. If Murray doesn't return Sunday, Joshua Dobbs will remain the team's starting quarterback.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: One To Stash (QB Preview)

Murray is the prize of the waiver wire at QB this week. We don't know if he'll return in Week 8, but he's close enough to a return that he should be rostered in more than 90% of leagues. He has never had a season below 20 FPPG and projects as a top-12 QB rest of season once he is activated.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Week 8 Waiver Priority List

We might not see Murray play until Week 10 against Atlanta as he continues his comeback from last year's torn ACL, but he's getting close to a return, which is exciting. It's unknown if he'll play like the same quarterback we saw prior to his injury based on how much he'll run, but he still has league-winning upside if he's close to 100 percent. If you can stash Murray on your bench -- he should be 100 percent rostered in all leagues with an IR spot -- then do so for 5 percent of your FAB.

  • Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Takes first-team reps this week

Murray (knee) may not be reinstated from the PUP list until the Cardinals' Week 10 game against the Falcons, but he took frst-team reps during practice this week, and the Cardinals plan to build around him, Jay Glazer reported on "Fox NFL Sunday." Glazer's report doesn't necessarily dispel the notion that the Cardinals might draft one of the elite quarterbacks in next year's draft. If they were to do so, the Cardinals would still want to have as much trade leverage as possible either with Murray or the putative pick. Still, Glazer's report further backs up ones from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and Adam Schefter of ESPN from earlier Sunday indicating that Murray will play at some point this season, even though doing so would expose the Cardinals to some financial risk. Murray's $29.9 million salary for 2025 would become fully guaranteed if he can't pass a physical by March 2024 due to his surgically repaired right knee or because of another injury.
