Player Outlook
Reaching a one-year contract compromise with the Giants just as camps opened, Barkley remains a top-five Fantasy running back worth drafting in Round 1. It makes it much easier to invest an early pick without the specter of a holdout. Barkley had a bounce-back season in 2022 when he averaged 17.7 PPR points per game, which was his best total since 2019. After two-injury plagued years, it was great to see Barkley show off his skills again, and Fantasy managers reaped the benefits with more than 1,600 total yards, 57 receptions and 10 touchdowns. He should be a star again in coach Brian Daboll's offense. Barkley is one of the rare NFL running backs with 350-total touch potential, which is why he is worth drafting in Round 1.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Quiet in Week 12 victory

Barkley rushed 12 times for 46 yards and caught one of three targets for six yards in Sunday's 10-7 win over the Patriots. Barkley finished with a season low in rushing yards, as he was bottled up after producing runs of 14 and 19 yards in the first quarter. The star running back is usually the focal point of the Giants' offense, and Barkley has at least 12 carries and three targets in all nine games he's played this season. After a Week 13 bye, Barkley will need 135 scrimmage yards in Week 14 against the Packers to reach 1,000 for the fourth time in six NFL seasons.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Two receiving scores in Week 11 win

Barkley rushed 14 times for 83 yards while catching four of five targets for 57 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 31-19 win over Washington. Barkley opened the scoring with a 24-yard receiving touchdown, on which he showed off his downfield pass-catching ability by securing a back-shoulder throw and keeping his feet from going out of bounds. He added a five-yard receiving score in the fourth quarter to give the Giants a 21-12 lead. Barkley's second touchdown came four plays after he broke free for a season-long 36-yard run, and he added a 31-yard run on New York's next drive. Despite rushing for minus-2 yards in the first half, Barkley finished with 77-plus yards for the fifth time in his last six appearances. He should remain the focal point of a Giants offense quarterbacked by Tommy DeVito in Week 12 against the 2-8 Patriots.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Good to go

Barkley (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Washington, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. Barkley was a limited participant Wednesday through Friday, with the Giants continuing to manage his practice workloads ever since he returned from a high-ankle sprain for Week 6. It's been a much different story on game days; he's averaged 22.0 carries and 4.2 targets on 53.2 snaps the past five weeks, serving as the engine of an otherwise dysfunctional offense that's now down to third-string QB Tommy DeVito (shoulder).

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Another limited practice

Barkley (ankle) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Barkley maintained his activity level from one day prior, which seemingly is the result of the running back tweaking his previously sprained right ankle in the late moments of this past Sunday's defeat in Dallas. He's been the sole bright spot in an offense lacking on much firepower, especially with undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito (shoulder) at quarterback. Over his last five games, Barkley has racked up 124 touches for 518 yards from scrimmage and one receiving TD. Friday's injury report will reveal whether or not he enters the weekend with an injury designation for Sunday's contest at Washington.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Cracks century mark in total yards

Barkley finished with 16 carries for 90 yards and three receptions on four targets for 23 yards in Sunday's 30-6 loss to the Raiders. Barkley started Sunday's contest clear of any injury designations after battling ankle and elbow injuries in recent weeks. The Giants' superstar displayed his improved health by reaching triple digits in total yardage for the third consecutive week. Barkley has averaged 27.5 combined touches in four games since returning from injury in Week 6, and he may be asked to carry a heavier load on offense since quarterback Daniel Jones (knee) is feared to have torn an ACL in the loss to Las Vegas. Expect the flailing Giants to lean on its star tailback in a road tilt against Dallas next Sunday.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Clear for Week 9

Barkley (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's contest in Las Vegas, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Barkley endured practice limitations during Week 9 prep due to a listed ankle injury, which likely was maintenance related due to the high-ankle sprain that sidelined him Weeks 3 through 5. With his status confirmed for Sunday, he'll be looking to continue a stretch in which he's been the only reliable offensive option for the Giants. Over the last three games, Barkley has piled up 344 yards from scrimmage and one receiving touchdown on 91 touches.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Gets 39 touches in OT loss

Barkley rushed 36 times for 128 yards and caught three of five targets for zero yards in Sunday's 13-10 overtime loss to the Jets. Barkley was already the focal point of the offense, but the Giants leaned even more heavily on the running back after undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito took over under center in the second quarter following Tyrod Taylor's (ribs) exit. A 34-yard Barkley run, coupled with a pair of unnecessary roughness calls on the Jets defense, set up DeVito's six-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, which gave the Giants a 10-7 lead. Barkley would have a high touch floor if DeVito remains under center in Week 9 against the Raiders, but New York's entire offense would have a far higher ceiling if either Daniel Jones (neck) or Taylor is cleared to return by then.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Cleared for Week 8

Barkley (elbow) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Jets, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. The lack of an injury designation isn't particularly surprising after Barkley was able to return to last Sunday's win over the Commanders after hyperextending his elbow during the contest. He finished the game with an 83 percent snap share and 24 touches, after handling 79 percent of snaps and 28 touches the week before in a loss to Buffalo in his first game back from an ankle injury. Barkley should be busy again this Sunday and will once again have quarterback Tyrod Taylor alongside him in the backfield rather than Daniel Jones (neck).

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Another limited showing

Barkley (elbow) was a limited at practice Thursday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Barkley maintained his activity level for a second consecutive session to kick off Week 8 prep as he manages the hyperextended left elbow that he suffered this past Sunday against the Commanders. Considering he logged 83 percent of the snaps and racked up 24 touches while playing through the injury, he doesn't appear to be in danger of missing Sunday's game against the Jets, but there's a chance that he enters the weekend with a designation.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Begins week as limited

Barkley (elbow) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Barkley hyperextended his left elbow in this past Sunday's win over the Commanders but continued to play through the issue on his way to 24 touches for 118 yards from scrimmage and one receiving touchdown on an 83 percent snap share. He told Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com after the game that he'll "be alright," but the Giants nonetheless are capping Barkley's reps to kick off Week 8 prep. As a result, Barkley's status will be one to watch as the weekend draws closer to get a sense of his availability for Sunday's game against the Jets.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Avoids injury designation

Barkley (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's matchup with Washington, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Barkley returned from a two-game absence for last Sunday's 14-9 loss to Buffalo and took 28 touches for 98 yards while playing 79 percent of snaps on offense. He was limited in practice earlier this week, but there's not much concern about his health/role after Barkley confirmed that he made it through the Bills game without any setbacks. This Sunday, he'll face a defense ranked 23rd in rushing yards allowed per game (129) and 26th in opponent YPC (4.6), though efficient production is a tall task all the same given New York's continued injury woes on the offensive line. Left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring), center John Michael Schmitz (shoulder) and swing tackle Matt Peart (shoulder) already have been ruled out, while right tackle Evan Neal (ankle) and quarterback Daniel Jones (neck) are listed as questionable, and both appear in serious danger of missing the game.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Limited in practice again

Barkley (ankle) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. The Giants are managing Barkley's workload after he took 28 touches in a 14-9 loss to the Bills on Sunday in his first week back from a two-game absence. He should be ready for a huge role again this Sunday against Washington, having told reporters Thursday that he's avoided any setbacks with the ankle injury, per Matt Citak of Giants.com.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Stays limited at practice

Barkley (ankle) was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. After sitting out three contests due to a right high-ankle sprain, Barkley returned to action this past Sunday in Buffalo, garnering 79 percent of the offensive snaps and turning 28 touches into 98 yards from scrimmage. Clearly, he's able to handle anything the Giants give him on game days, but he likely will continue to have a cap on his practice reps until the injury is well in the rear-view mirror. Barkley may need to log a full session by week's end to head into Sunday's outing against the Commanders without an injury designation.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Handles 28 touches in return

Barkley (ankle) had 24 carries for 93 yards while catching four of five targets for five yards in Sunday's 14-9 loss to Buffalo. Barkley completed his speedy recovery from a high-ankle sprain that wound up costing him two games. The coaching staff did not have the luxury of easing the team's star player back into action following a 1-4 start to the season, resulting in a season-high 28 combined touches for Barkley in defeat. The 26-year-old performed well on an individual basis given his heavy workload and the fact that he was likely playing at less than full strength Sunday. Assuming the ankle held up fine, the shorthanded Giants figure to continue leaning on Barkley in a divisional matchup against Washington next Sunday.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Back in action Sunday

Barkley (ankle) is listed as active Sunday at Buffalo, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. After being listed as a limited practice participant for a second week in a row, Barkley again was listed as questionable for an upcoming game. This time around, though, there was optimism from the Giants (via Adam Schefter of ESPN) and Barkley himself (via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network) that he'd make his first appearance since sustaining a high right-ankle sprain Week 2, and that has come to pass. There's a chance Barkley doesn't take on a full workload right away considering the aforementioned limitations, but New York will have its top playmaker available Week 6. Matt Breida will be Barkley's top competitor for reps out of the backfield Sunday.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Deemed questionable again

Barkley (ankle) is listed as questionable for a matchup with the Bills on Sunday night, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports. Barkley appears truly questionable for a second straight week, and he'll be running behind the most injured offensive line in the league if he ends up playing. The Giants have ruled out three O-linemen and QB Daniel Jones (neck), with TE Darren Waller (groin) and three additional blockers deemed questionable. A late kickoff at 8:15 ET on Sunday further complicates matters for fantasy purposes given that Barkley may end up a game-time decision. Matt Breida dominated backfield work in the first two games Barkley missed, whereas Breida and Eric Gray operated in a near-50/50 split last Sunday in Miami.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Still limited in practice

Barkley (ankle) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Barkley appears to be in something of a holding pattern in his recovery from a right high-ankle sprain; he's now been limited in eight consecutive practices. The standout running back still has a chance to put an end to his three-game absence this Sunday against the Bills, but he may need to put in a full practice Friday for the Giants to give him the green light to play. Even if he plays this weekend, Barkley may not make for the slam-dunk lineup option he usually is, particularly in shallower leagues. In addition to the prospect of facing a negative game script in a road matchup against the heavily favored Bills, Barkley will be running behind a struggling offensive line and could be subject to a limited workload and snap count if he suits up.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Stays limited at practice

Barkley (ankle) practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. During the media-access portion of Wednesday's session, Barkley was operating with his right ankle heavily taped and also looked similar to how he appeared last week when he ran with the ball, per Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. The Giants have two more chances to evaluate Barkley's health before determining whether he'll carry a designation into Sunday's game at Buffalo. Head coach Brian Daboll told Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com on Monday that Barkley's Week 6 availability has "yet to be determined."

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Uncertain for Week 6

Coach Brian Daboll said the status of Barkley (ankle) for Sunday's game against the Bills is "yet to be determined," Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. Barkley hasn't suited up since Week 2 due to a lingering right ankle injury. Last week, the star running back managed a trio of limited practices, a notable step in the right direction, though he ultimately wasn't able to take the field for Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. Daboll said tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring) is also TBD for Week 6, though he noted that Barkley is the closer of the two to a return. Matt Breida has struggled to lead New York's backfield with Barkley absent, having rushed nine times for 21 yards and securing his only target for three yards Week 5.

  • Giants' Saquon Barkley: Remains out for Week 5

Barkley (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Despite being listed as a limited participant in practices Wednesday through Friday and carrying a questionable tag into the weekend, Barkley will ultimately miss his third consecutive game due to a right high-ankle sprain. Matt Breida is expected to receive another turn as the Giants' lead back in his stead, but if Barkley can upgrade to full participant in practice at some point during Week 6, he should have a good chance at being available for an Oct. 15 matchup with the Bills.
