  • Riley Patterson: Joins Browns' practice squad

The Browns signed Patterson to their practice squad Tuesday, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports. The addition of Patterson is a sign that Dustin Hopkins' job could be in jeopardy. Hopkins, who missed two field goals in Sunday's loss to the Steelers, has now converted at just a 64 percent clip for the season, by far the worst rate of his career. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Hopkins will remain the club's kicker for now, but Patterson looks like the next man up if Cleveland decides to make a change. Patterson previously spent time with Cleveland in 2023 when Hopkins sustained a hamstring injury late in the season. Over stops with the Lions, Jaguars, Browns and Jets during his four-year NFL career, Patterson has knocked down 59 of his 67 field-goal attempts (88.1 percent).

  • Riley Patterson: Let go by Atlanta

Atlanta cut Patterson from the practice squad Tuesday, Terrin Waack of the Falcons' official site reports. Patterson was signed to the Falcons' practice squad Nov. 29 to provide kicking insurance in case Younghoe Koo was unable to suit up against the Chargers this past Sunday. Patterson was elevated to the active roster for that game, but ended up being inactive as Koo was able to overcome a hip injury and play. Patterson will have the chance to sign with another team in need of a placekicker.

  • Riley Patterson: Back with practice squad

Patterson reverted to the Falcons' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log. Patterson was inactive for Sunday's matchup with the Chargers after operating as a safety option for Younghoe Koo throughout the week. Koo was dealing with a hip injury but was ultimately able to play. Patterson will now return to the practice unit, but it's unclear how long he may stick around Atlanta.

  • Falcons' Riley Patterson: Inactive for Week 13

Patterson (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports. Patterson was added to the Falcons' practice squad Friday -- then subsequently elevated to the active roster Saturday -- to provide insurance for Atlanta in case Younghoe Koo wasn't able to play Sunday due to a hip injury. Koo is active for Sunday's contest, so Patterson's services are not needed.

  • Falcons' Riley Patterson: Gets elevated for Week 13

The Falcons elevated Patterson from their practice squad to their active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's clash against the Chargers, Terrin Waack of the team's official site reports. Patterson just joined Atlanta's practice squad Friday after being cut by the Jets earlier in November. He had played in one game for New York, making all three of his extra-point tries while not attempting a field goal in Week 9 versus Houston. Patterson may just be kicking insurance for the Falcons in Sunday's contest, as primary kicker Younghoe Koo (hip) logged a full practice session Friday and is expected to be able to suit up.

  • Riley Patterson: Joins Falcons practice squad

Patterson signed with Atlanta's practice squad Friday, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Patterson offers the Falcons insurance ahead of Sunday's game against the Chargers after kicker Younghoe Koo popped up on the injury report Thursday with a hip injury that limited Koo's practice participation. Atlanta released safety Dane Cruikshank from the practice squad in a corresponding move. Patterson would be elevated to the active roster ahead of Sunday's game if Koo is unable to play.

  • Riley Patterson: Finds new opportunity

Patterson signed with the Jets' practice squad Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Patterson has been on the free agent market since getting waived by the Commanders in August. The 25-year-old kicked for the Lions last season, appearing in 13 games and making 88 percent of his FGAs. He'll spend Wednesday competing with fellow practice squad signing Spencer Shrader to see who will kick for the Jets on Thursday against the Texans, as Greg Zuerlein (knee) is not expected to play.

  • Riley Patterson: Cut loose in favor of Cade York

The Commanders waived Patterson on Thursday. Washington traded for Cade York, who now replaces Patterson as the only kicker on the roster. It's possible Patterson gets a look from another team with a shaky placekicking situation, but he may have to settle for a spot on a practice squad or wait until the season begins before receiving another opportunity.

  • Riley Patterson: Loses competition in Jacksonville

The Jaguars waived Patterson on Monday. Patterson had been competing with rookie sixth-rounder Cam Little for Jacksonville's starting kicking job, and it looks like Little came out ahead. Patterson, who turns 25 in September, has converted 59 of 67 field-goal attempts (88.1 percent) in his career, but just 19 of 25 tries (76.0 percent) from 40-plus yards.

  • Browns' Riley Patterson: Will kick in wild-card round

Patterson was elevated from Cleveland's practice squad Friday and will kick in Saturday's wild-card round game against the Texans. Patterson's elevation was expected after the Browns ruled Dustin Hopkins (hamstring) out for the team's playoff opener. While filling in for Hopkins over the last two games of the regular season, Patterson converted his only field-goal attempt from 33 yards and made six of seven PAT attempts. Earlier in the season, he made 15 of 17 field-goal attempts and 35 of 37 PAT attempts for the Lions.

  • Riley Patterson: Goes back to practice squad

Patterson reverted to the Browns' practice squad Monday. For a second game in a row Sunday at Cincinnati, Patterson filled in at placekicker for Dustin Hopkins, making both his point-after tries. Hopkins hasn't practiced since injuring his left hamstring during a Week 16 win at Houston, but he'll have opportunities to do so as the Browns prepare for Saturday's wild-card contest against the Texans on the road. Patterson would handle kicking duties again this weekend if Hopkins isn't able to suit up.

  • Riley Patterson: Reverts to practice squad

Patterson reverted to Cleveland's practice squad Friday, per the NFL's transaction log. Filling in for an injured Dustin Hopkins Thursday night against the Jets, Patterson made his lone field-goal attempt and four of his five extra-point tries. It's unclear if Hopkins will be ready for the Browns' Week 18 regular-season finale.

  • Riley Patterson: Headed to Cleveland

The Browns signed Patterson to their practice squad Monday. Patterson will head to Cleveland to provide an insurance option for Dustin Hopkins, who injured his hamstring during Sunday's win versus the Texans. Patterson converted on 15 of his 17 field-goal attempts in 13 games for the Lions this season and could start against the Jets on Thursday if Hopkins is unable to suit up.

  • Riley Patterson: Cut loose by Lions

The Lions waived Patterson on Tuesday. For each of the Lions' first 13 games of the season, Patterson served as the team's placekicker, connecting on 15 of 17 field-goal attempts and 35 of 37 point-after tries. The prospect of switching to Michael Badgley was there all along after he joined the practice squad following cut-down day back in August, and Detroit finally made the move this past Saturday against the Broncos, keeping him active and making Patterson inactive. With Patterson now off the roster, he'll be subject to waivers before having his pick at other opportunities elsewhere.

  • Lions' Riley Patterson: Kicker to Sit

Patterson has scored a combined 12 Fantasy points in his past three games against Chicago, Green Bay and New Orleans. In two of those games, he didn't attempt a field goal, including the matchup against the Bears in Week 11. Patterson only has three games this season with at least 10 Fantasy points, and he's not worth trusting on the road in Week 14.

  • Lions' Riley Patterson: Slump continues

Patterson missed his only PAT during Thursday's 29-22 loss to the Packers. This is a new low for Patterson after attempting zero field goals last week against Chicago as well. However, he is hardly to blame for quarterback Jared Goff losing three fumbles and leading the offense to one conversion on six fourth-down plays. The entire Lions offense will look to get back on track in Week 13 against the Saints.

  • Lions' Riley Patterson: Held without field-goal attempt

Patterson converted three of three PATs during Sunday's 31-26 win over the Bears. Detroit did not attempt a field goal for the fourth time in 10 games this year. Making matters worse for Patterson's production was the Lions' decision to go for a two-point conversion after one of the team's four touchdowns, as Detroit otherwise scored on a safety to reach 31 points. Just a few weeks removed from attempting five field goals against the Raiders, Patterson is entering Week 12 as a high-upside, low-floor fantasy option.

  • Lions' Riley Patterson: Another productive outing

Patterson converted both of his field-goal attempts and five of five PATs during Sunday's 41-38 win over the Chargers. While his two field-goal tries are a far cry from the five he saw in Week 8, Patterson remained busy coming out of the bye. However, despite the recent production, Detroit still sits 28th in the league in field-goal attempts per game despite ranking top-six in points per game (26.8), yards per game (406.4), and yards per play (5.9). The hope for Patterson is that his association with a high-powered offense -- that is now fully healthy after the return of David Montgomery -- will lead the Memphis product to better fantasy production over the second half of the season. Up next is a home matchup against a Bears defense allowing the sixth-most points per game (25.5) in 2023.

  • Lions' Riley Patterson: Busy day

Patterson converted four of five field-goal attempts and both of his PATs during Monday's 26-14 win over the Raiders. After giving fantasy managers nothing last week, Patterson saw as many field goal attempts as he had the previous four weeks. He ultimately nailed a quartet of kicks ranging from 31 to 52 yards only to miss his final attempt from 26 yards out. While Patterson didn't maximize his output, it was nice to see his upside as a fantasy asset within a productive Lions offense. He will look to stay productive once Detroit returns from a Week 9 bye to take on a weak Chargers defense.

  • Lions' Riley Patterson: Blanked by Ravens

Patterson did not attempt a field goal or an extra point during Sunday's 38-6 loss to the Ravens. Patterson had not attempted fewer than two PATs in any game before Sunday's rock-bottom production. Entering halftime with 258 fewer yards of total offense than Baltimore, Detroit did Patterson no favors in getting opportunities to put up points. However, the Lions had been rolling all season up until this point, and the offensive unit still ranks eighth in scoring and fourth in total yards per game. Patterson will look to bounce back on his home turf in Week 8 against Las Vegas.
