  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Back to SF on one-year pact

Dwelley signed a one-year contract with the 49ers on Friday. Dwelley spent his first six NFL seasons in San Francisco before playing for the Falcons in 2024. Back in the Bay Area, the 30-year-old Dwelley will compete for a roster spot with the 49ers in 2025. He has just 17 receiving yards in 29 regular-season appearances over the past two seasons, so Dwelley doesn't project to factor into the passing game much, even if he makes the team.

  • Falcons' Ross Dwelley: No targets in Week 15

Dwelley went without a target while playing nine of the Falcons' 74 snaps on offense in Sunday's 42-21 loss to the Vikings. Dwelley has suited up for all 13 of the Falcons' games this season but has consistently played behind Kyle Pitts and Charlie Woerner as the team's No. 3 tight end. The 29-year-old has notched just one reception on the campaign, which came back in Week 11 in Denver.

  • Falcons' Ross Dwelley: Expected to be block-first TE

Dwelley made the Falcons' initial 53-man roster Tuesday, Terrin Waack of the Falcons' official site reports. Dwelley and Charlie Woerner signed similar contracts this offseason and will start the campaign as backups to Kyle Pitts. Dwelley played sparingly on offense in San Francisco, but he's a stout blocker and will be involved in Atlanta's running game, per Josh Kendall of The Athletic.

  • Falcons' Ross Dwelley: Finds new home in Atlanta

The Falcons signed Dwelley (ankle) on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Dwelley finished last season on injured reserve after sustaining an ankle injury, but it now seems as if he's moved past the issue. After spending the first six seasons of his NFL career with the 49ers, the 29-year-old tight end has agreed to terms with the Falcons. Across his last three seasons, Dwelley has appeared in 41 games and made two starts, catching eight of his 12 targets for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Despite his underwhelming offensive production, the San Diego product has been a consistent contributor on special teams (619 snaps over the last three years), and he's expected to compete for a similar role in Atlanta.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Lands on IR

The 49ers placed Dwelley (ankle) to the injured reserve Saturday. Dwelley sustained a high-ankle sprain in Week 13 against the Eagles. He hasn't managed to suit up since, and with his placement on IR, his season is officially over since the 49ers have a max of four games left. Dwelley had one catch on two targets for 12 yards over 12 games this season, operating mostly as a pass-blocking tight end and special-teams player.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Out again

Dwelley (ankle) will not play in Sunday's matchup with the Commanders. Dwelley's absence will mark his fourth straight due to an ankle injury. As a result, Charlie Woerner and Brayden Willis figure to continue as depth tight end options behind George Kittle. Dwelley's next chance to suit up will come in the 49ers' regular-season finale versus the Rams.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Missing third straight game Monday

Dwelley (ankle) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Ravens, Cam Inman of The Mercury News reports. Dwelley will miss a third consecutive game as a result of his ankle injury. The backup tight end's next opportunity to suit up will be Week 17 against the Commanders. Charlie Woerner and Brayden Willis will continue to fill depth roles behind George Kittle against the Ravens.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Misses another practice

Dwelley (ankle) did not practice Friday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Dwelley has missed San Francisco's past two games due to an ankle injury, and his chance of playing Monday against Baltimore isn't strong given that he has sat out the team's first two practices this week. In fact, the veteran tight end hasn't been able to practice at all since getting hurt Week 13 versus Philadelphia. Brayden Willis could continue to see a handful of snaps on offense Monday if Dwelley is sidelined again.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Misses practice Thursday

Dwelley (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. The third-string tight end has missed two straight games and appears to be trending that way again heading into Monday's matchup with the Ravens. Dwelley has one catch for 12 yards this season.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Missing another game

Dwelley (ankle) won't play in Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Dwelley is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, and he wasn't able to practice at all this week. He also missed last Sunday's win over the Seahawks, giving Brayden Willis the chance to see his first action since Week 4. Dwelley's Week 15 absence won't set off many alarms in fantasy circles, as he's made just one catch (on two targets) over 12 games this season.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Won't play Sunday

Dwelley (ankle) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. Dwelley sustained a right high-ankle sprain in the 49ers' Week 13 win over the Eagles. He was unable to participate in practice all week and is set to miss his first game of the year. In Dwelley's absence, Brayden Willis is set to step into the No. 3 tight end role behind George Kittle and Charlie Woerner.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Serves backup role in 2022

Dwelley had three receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown across 12 active regular-season games in 2022. Dwelley was able to produce a couple of big plays while George Kittle recovered from an injury to start the season, but he ultimately was limited to special teams for the majority of the year. The 27-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but he is unlikely to land in a situation that warrants fantasy consideration after posting forgettable totals through the first five years of his pro career.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Healthy scratch again

Dwelley (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Buccaneers, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Dwelley will be a healthy scratch for the second consecutive week. The 27-year-old seems to be firmly behind Charlie Woerner and Tyler Kroft on the team's positional depth chart as backups to George Kittle, which will keep him sidelined again.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Part of big splash play

Dwelley caught his lone target for 56 yards in Sunday's 31-14 win over the Rams. Dwelley -- normally a backup tight end -- played most of his 19 offensive snaps at fullback in place of Kyle Juszczyk (thumb). The 27-year-old saw only one target, but he made it count by running a crisp wheel route out of the backfield for a huge gain. With the 49ers entering a bye week, there's a good chance Juszczyk returns before the team's next game against the Chargers on Sunday, Nov. 13. Dwelley currently isn't a roster-worthy fantasy option.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Back in full Friday

Dwelley (ribs) practiced in full Friday, Lindsey Pallares of the team's official site reports. Dwelley sat out practice last week with a ribs injury, but he ultimately played through the issue in Monday's 24-9 win over the Rams. Although the 235-pounder failed to practice again Thursday, his ability to participate in full Friday indicates he's no longer in danger of missing Sunday's contest against the Panthers. With George Kittle reclaiming the No. 1 tight end spot for San Francisco, Dwelley has seen a combined nine offensive snaps over the 49ers' last two games.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Ready to go Monday

Dwelley (ribs) will play Monday against the Rams, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Dwelley didn't practice last week until Saturday, but he's feeling healthy enough to suit up against the Rams. The 27-year-old only played four offensive snaps last week and never saw a target in George Kittle's return. He's a dart throw at best for fantasy purposes, even in DFS single-game contests, as long as Kittle remains healthy.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Questionable for Week 4

Dwelley (ribs) practiced in limited fashion Saturday and is questionable for Monday's game against the Rams, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Dwelley's limited session was his first practice participation of the week. Since the return of George Kittle, Dwelley has been relegated nearly exclusively to special teams duties.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Sits out Friday's practice

Dwelley (ribs) didn't practice Friday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. Dwelley has missed back-to-back practices ahead of Monday's divisional clash with the Rams due to a rib injury. The extent of the issue remains unclear, but he'll have just one more practice before the team makes a decision on his status for Week 4. With George Kittle back, Dwelley played just four offensive snaps in Week 3, so his potential absence wouldn't be a significant blow to the 49ers offense.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: Makes impressive touchdown catch

Dwelley caught his lone target for a 38-yard touchdown in Sunday's 27-7 win over the Seahawks. George Kittle (groin) wasn't able to suit up, and Tyler Kroft (knee) suffered an injury, so Dwelley took over as the 49ers' top receiving option at the tight end position. Seasoned backup Jimmy Garoppolo hit the veteran tight end in stride, and Dwelley fully extended to cross the plane for his first touchdown of the season. Kittle was close to playing Sunday, so his impending return will quash any excitement over Dwelley's big score. If the 49ers' star tight end is unable to go against Denver on Sunday, Dwelley would remain a non-factor in fantasy due to a low volume of potential targets.

  • 49ers' Ross Dwelley: One catch as backup

Dwelley caught one of two targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 19-10 loss to Chicago. With George Kittle (groin) missing the season opener, Tyler Kroft got the start at tight end (one catch for nine yards) and Dwelley backed him up. Neither player made a fantasy impact, and that should remain the same even if Kittle is unable to suit up for a Week 2 matchup against Seattle.
