Player Outlook
Edwards is a medium-priority handcuff and bench RB for Fantasy managers to keep in mind once Round 13 starts. His Fantasy contributions have been slim since 2020 but he does play, logging 11-plus carries in five of six games he played at least 20% of the snaps in last year, averaging 5.0 yards per carry for the fourth time in four seasons. Unfortunately, Edwards has constantly struggled to score (one touchdown every 38.5 carries for his career), has been a non-factor in the passing game (18 career receptions) and is sure to split reps. He'll likely need an injury to J.K. Dobbins to become a reliable Fantasy starter.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: RBs to Sit

Edwards remains in a three-headed committee for the Ravens with Keaton Mitchell and Justice Hill, and Week 12 at the Chargers was a reminder of the pitfalls in trusting Edwards based on his lack of consistent work. He had eight carries for 26 yards and no touchdowns against the Chargers, which snapped his five-game streak of scoring a touchdown (he had 10 touchdowns over that span), and one catch for 11 yards on one target. He could always fall into the end zone again in Week 14 against the Rams, but Los Angeles is No. 7 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs. The Rams also have not allowed a rushing touchdown in three games in a row, and only five running backs have scored against them this season.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Loses ground in backfield split

Edwards rushed the ball eight times for 26 yards in Sunday's 20-10 win over the Chargers. He added one catch on one reception for 11 yards. Edwards was limited to single-digit carries for only the third time this season, as Lamar Jackson and Keaton Mitchell both outpaced him. The loss of work to Mitchell is particularly concerning, as the rookie has generally been a more efficient runner than Edwards, and he could become more incorporated into the offense down the stretch. Even if that's the case, Edwards should retain his goal-line role, giving him a decent chance to find the end zone on a weekly basis. In fact, Edwards has scored at least one touchdown in five straight games prior to being shut out of the end zone Sunday.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: RBs to Start

It will likely be a problem for Edwards' stat line when he fails to score a touchdown, but the Gus Bus continues to roll into the end zone on a weekly basis of late. He's scored a touchdown in five games in a row, with nine total touchdowns over that span, and he has at least 17.2 PPR points in four of his past five outings. This week, Edwards has a favorable matchup against the Chargers, who allowed three rushing touchdowns to Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery in Week 10. For the season, the Chargers are No. 7 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs, and I like Keaton Mitchell as a sleeper also in all leagues.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Two more touchdowns in win

Edwards rushed 12 times for 62 yards and two touchdowns and brought in both targets for eight yards in the Ravens' 34-20 win over the Bengals on Thursday night. Edwards remained the Ravens' top back in the big divisional win, although rookie Keaton Mitchell appears to have clearly moved into the No. 2 role after logging eight carries to Justice Hill's one. Edwards' touchdown barrage shows no sign of abating, as he crossed the goal line on three-yard scoring runs in the first and fourth quarter to push his season total to a career-high 10. Edwards has eight of those scores in the last four games alone, keeping his fantasy stock robust despite what is typically a minimal passing game role heading into a Week 12 road matchup against the Chargers on Sunday night, Nov. 26.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Start Him in Non-PPR (Lineup Decisions)

Thursday night games tend to bring out the best performances in running backs because they can heal up quicker than a collective defense can. Edwards isn't a slug by any means and the Ravens have been willing to run the ball well against pretty much everybody they've faced. Expect him to lose touches to Keaton Mitchell and some third-down snaps to Justice Hill, but his chances of scoring and putting up 50 yards with it makes him an easy RB2 in non-PPR and a borderline RB2 in PPR. I'd start him over Jerome Ford, James Cook, and the Rams RBs in non- and half-PPR, but I'd put him behind Ford if it's full PPR.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Sleepers (Start/Sit)

While Keaton Mitchell is definitely the flashy new toy, and hopefully he continues to get more work moving forward, don't forget about the Gus Bus. Edwards remains the lead running back for the Ravens, and he has seven rushing touchdowns in his past four games, including three outings over that span with at least 17.2 PPR points. He already had a solid game against the Bengals in Week 2 with 10 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown, and Cincinnati has allowed a running back to score at least 12.7 PPR points in five of its past six games, including five rushing touchdowns over that span. Edwards is worth starting as a No. 2 running back in all leagues, and Mitchell is a flex option. He's turned 14 total touches over the past two games against Seattle and Cleveland into 34 PPR points, which is amazing.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Remains lead back

Edwards rushed the ball 11 times for 24 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 33-31 loss to the Browns. He added one catch for four yards. Though Keaton Mitchell has proven to be the more explosive player, Edwards remained the lead back in Baltimore and out-touched Mitchell by a 12-4 margin. Edwards was largely unremarkable with the opportunity, though he did manage to fall into the end zone from one yard away early in the fourth quarter. He now has at least one touchdown in four consecutive games, and though his grip on the lead-back role may be tenuous, Edwards will likely remain the short-yardage option at a minimum.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Bust Alert (Start/Sit)

Edwards has been awesome the past three weeks against Detroit, Arizona and Seattle with at least 17.2 PPR points in each of those games. He has six touchdowns over that span, and he'll likely need to score this week against the Browns to help his Fantasy production. Edwards already faced Cleveland in Week 4 and had 15 carries for 48 yards and two catches for 1 yard on three targets. The Browns are No. 4 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs, with just two rushing touchdowns allowed to the position, and this is a tough matchup to trust Edwards. Along with that, we could see Edwards sharing touches with Keaton Mitchell and Justice Hill after Mitchell's breakout game in Week 9 against Seattle. This could get messy, and Edwards is just a flex option at best in Week 10.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Another multi-touchdown week

Edwards rushed the ball five times for 52 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 37-3 win over Seattle. Edwards saw four of his five touches in the first half, splitting carries evenly with Justice Hill and Keaton Mitchell. He saw only one rush attempt in the final two quarters, though it was unclear whether that was due to Baltimore's significant lead, or if he is losing ground in the running-back competition. Even with the limited workload, Edwards found the end zone twice to tally his second consecutive multi-touchdown game. Even if his volume fluctuates, it appears his role at the goal line remains secure.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Back at practice

Edwards (toe) returned to practice Thursday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. Edwards missed Wednesday's session, but his return to the field a day later bodes well for his chances of suiting up Sunday against the Seahawks. The Ravens' second injury report will be released later Thursday and will reveal whether Edwards was a full or limited participant.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

No doubt this is a tough matchup for Edwards, but Fantasy managers should be encouraged by his play over the past couple of weeks. He seems safe to trust for a good workload and has the potential to score a touchdown against anybody. I'd start him over James Cook, Isiah Pacheco and either Packers RB.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Three TDs in Week 8 win

Edwards rushed 19 times for 80 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 31-24 win over the Cardinals. He also caught both of his targets for 14 yards. Edwards had just one touchdown through six games, but he found the end zone last week while posting a season-high 144 scrimmage yards before this three-touchdown performance. He powered in a one-yard touchdown in the final minute of the first half, then scored from seven yards out in the third quarter and added another one-yard touchdown in the fourth. Edwards also set season highs in carries and rushing yards while tying his season high in catches for good measure. He's the clear lead back in Baltimore heading into a Week 9 home game against the Seahawks.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

Edwards hardly gets targets and might need a couple of big plays and/or a touchdown to really deliver for Fantasy managers, but he's worth the risk given his increase in playing time and workload near the goal line. Baltmore's offensive line should help pave the way for Edwards to be worth using as at least a low-end RB2, even in PPR. I'd start him over the Steelers RBs, the Broncos RBs and the Rams RBs.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: RBs to Start

It's risky to trust Edwards because the Ravens could always surprise us and make this a Justice Hill game. But Edwards has played more snaps than Hill in the past two games against the Titans and Lions, and he's coming off a great outing against Detroit with 14 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown and one catch for 80 yards on one target. You can't count on work in the passing game for Edwards (he has four catches on the season), but he should run well against the Cardinals in Week 8. Arizona has allowed a running back to gain at least 81 rushing yards in five games in a row, with four 100-yard outings and four rushing touchdowns allowed over that span. Edwards is worth using as a No. 2 running back in all leagues, and Hill can be considered a sleeper.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Erupts for 144 total yards

Edwards rushed the ball 14 times for 64 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 38-6 win over the Lions. He added one reception on one target for 80 yards. Edwards handled nearly all of the work out of Baltimore's backfield, accounting for 14 of 18 carries by the team's running backs. He did well with the opportunity, tallying a long gain of 20 yards while also finding the end zone from two yards away. Edwards capped his performance with an 80-yard catch-and-run midway through the third quarter. His production as a pass catcher shouldn't be counted on given that he has only four targets in seven games this season, but he has a role near the goal line and is a threat to score on a weekly basis.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Tough sledding against Titans

Edwards carried the ball 16 times for 41 yards and caught his only target for 12 yards in Sunday's 24-16 win over the Titans. While he saw 17 touches to Justice Hill's 11 on the day, Edwards was far less effective on the ground with a 2.6 YPC, and Lamar Jackson wound up leading the Ravens with 62 rushing yards. The team's backfield will likely remain a timeshare, but Hill appears to be the more dangerous of the two backs with the ball in his hands. Edwards will face a tough test in Week 7 against a Lions defense that's given up only two rushing TDs and less than 50 rushing yards a game to RBs so far in 2023.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Slips into committee role

Edwards rushed the ball 12 times for 48 yards in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Steelers. Edwards remained the lead back in the Baltimore backfield in terms of carries, but he ceded work as a pass catcher and in the red zone to Justice Hill. That left Edwards with an empty stat line despite a relatively efficient rushing performance. He should continue to have a role moving forward, but it isn't likely to be particularly fantasy-friendly.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Sleeper RBs

We'll see if Justice Hill gets more work in Week 5 against the Steelers than he did in Week 4 against the Browns. Coming back from a toe injury, Hill only had three carries for 33 yards and no targets, and he's still on the injury report in Week 5 with foot and hamstring ailments. That should help Edwards continue to get a healthy amount of touches, and he had 15 carries for 48 yards against the Browns, along with a surprising two catches for 1 yard on three targets. That was a tough matchup against Cleveland, but the Steelers have been more forgiving to running backs. Three of four running backs this season have gained at least 100 total yards against Pittsburgh, and we'll see if Edwards can have success on the ground. He's worth using as a flex in deeper leagues, with his value higher in non-PPR.

  • Ravens' Gus Edwards: Not in protocol, good to go Week 4

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh confirmed after Wednesday's practice that Edwards is not in the NFL's concussion protocol, Ryan Mink of the team's official site reports. Edwards was a full participant in the Ravens' first Week 4 practice, and Harbaugh's comments following the session indicate that the running back is in the clear for Sunday's game in Cleveland since he won't be subject to the five-step protocol. The 27-year-old carried 11 times for 51 yards before exiting late in the fourth quarter of this past weekend's 22-19 overtime loss to the Colts to be evaluated for a concussion, but he was apparently never diagnosed with a brain injury.
