Player Outlook
Wilson went from prized rookie in 2021, when he was the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft, to being replaced by Aaron Rodgers two years later. We could see Wilson eventually get a chance to start again in the NFL, whether with the Jets or somewhere else, but he's not expected to play in 2023 barring an injury to Rodgers. Even then, the Jets might turn to Tim Boyle or Chris Streveler ahead of Wilson. He's been among the bigger busts in recent history, and he averaged 13.0 Fantasy points or less in each of his first two years. Needless to say, Wilson is not worth drafting in the majority of Fantasy leagues.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: To be emergency third QB

Head coach Robert Saleh said Tuesday that Wilson will be inactive Friday against the Dolphins but will serve as the Jets' emergency third quarterback, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports. Tim Boyle takes over No. 1 duties and Trevor Siemian will be the backup signal-caller in Wilson's place. If the second overall pick in the 2021 Draft doesn't see the field again this season, he'll finish it with 1,944 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions on 59 percent passing, plus 33 carries for 199 rushing yards, while getting sacked 38 times and committing nine fumbles (five lost).

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Ousted as starting quarterback

Wilson will move into a backup role for Friday's game against the Dolphins, with the Jets turning to Tim Boyle as their Week 12 starting quarterback, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. The writing appeared to be on the wall for Wilson's removal from the starting role, as he was benched during Sunday's 32-6 loss to the Bills before head coach Robert Saleh said after the game that he was undecided on a Week 12 starter. Since taking over for the injured Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) early in the first quarter of a Week 1 win over the Bills, Wilson completed just 59.2 percent of his passes for 6.1 yards per attempt, six touchdowns and seven interceptions, and he also lost five fumbles. Boyle doesn't have a previous track record of success at the NFL level and presumably will be on a short leash, but even if Boyle ends up being pulled from the starting job at some point, the Jets still could turn to a free agent or a member of another team's practice squad rather than giving Wilson another look.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Benched Sunday, Week 12 starter TBD

Head coach Robert Saleh said after Sunday's 32-6 loss to the Bills that he's undecided on whether Wilson will start Friday in the Jets' Week 12 game against the Dolphins, according to Fox Sports. Wilson was benched in the second half of Sunday's game after completing seven of 15 passes for 81 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed four times for 15 yards. Wilson was replaced by Tim Boyle, who completed seven of 14 passes for 33 yards and one interception in relief. The Jets have lost three consecutive games following a three-game winning streak to fall to 4-6. Boyle's poor play after replacing Wilson may have opened the door for Wilson to remain under center at home against Miami in Week 12, though an announcement on an official starter is likely to come within the next few days.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Will remain starting QB

Coach Robert Saleh said Monday that Wilson will remain the Jets' starting quarterback, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Saleh reiterated that offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett also will continue to call the offensive plays. Wilson has been dreadful this season, checking in at 31st in completion percentage (59.8 percent), 30th in touchdown throws (five) and 29th in yards per attempt (6.1), while the Jets have been downright bad on third downs. The Jets don't seem willing to give Tim Boyle any starts and are going to keep riding it out with Wilson despite just one offensive touchdown over their last three games.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: No TDs in ugly loss

Wilson completed 33 of 49 passes for 263 yards without a touchdown or interception in Monday's 27-6 loss to the Chargers. He added two rushing attempts for seven yards and fumbled three times, losing two. Wilson struggled but didn't get any help from the rest of New York's offense, which has produced just three touchdowns in the last four games. He was sacked eight times behind an unsuccessfully rejiggered offensive line, and numerous drops and penalties didn't help matters. While a significant chunk of Wilson's yardage came with the game out of reach in the fourth quarter, he should have at least had a late touchdown, but C.J. Uzomah dropped a ball that hit him in the chest in the end zone. Coming off this hollow season high in passing yards, Wilson will bring a 5:5 TD:INT into a Week 10 road game in Vegas.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Leads late comeback in OT win

Wilson completed 17 of 36 passes for 240 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 13-10 overtime win over the Giants. He added four rushing attempts for 25 yards and lost two fumbles. Wilson fumbled on the opening drive, leading to a Giants field goal, and after the Jets lost their top two centers to injuries in the first half, his first exchange with third-stringer Xavier Newman led to a fumbled snap. In between those two Wilson fumbles, Breece Hall turned a checkdown into a 50-yard touchdown. The Jets started 0-for-12 on third down before Wilson finally converted a 3rd-and-11 with a 17-yard run just before the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter, but things looked bleak after that possession ended on a fourth-down sack. Wilson came alive after the Jets got the ball back with 24 seconds left in regulation, completing back-to-back 29-yard passes to set up a game-tying field goal before helping draw a 30-yard pass interference penalty to set up the game-winning field goal in overtime. It hasn't been pretty, but Wilson and the Jets have won three straight to improve to 4-3 heading into a Week 9 MNF visit from the Chargers.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Manages team to win over Philly

Wilson completed 19 of 33 passes for 186 yards without a touchdown or turnover in Sunday's 20-14 win over the Eagles. He added four rushes for 15 yards and threw a two-point conversion. Wilson came up short of 200 passing yards for the fifth time in six games, but he led New York to a second consecutive victory by avoiding costly turnovers while Jalen Hurts threw three interceptions. Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) was seen throwing a football and walking without crutches, but his return likely remains months away, and Wilson is locked in as the Jets' starter in Rodgers' absence. Wilson will try for a third consecutive win in Week 8 against the Giants after a Week 7 bye.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Sleeper QBs

I don't want to chase Wilson's quality performance against the Chiefs in Week 4, but it was easily the best he looked all season when he passed for 245 yards and two touchdowns on 28-of-39 completions, along with 14 rushing yards. He should build off that outing in Week 5 against the Broncos, who allow the most Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. All four quarterbacks against Denver this season (Jimmy Garoppolo, Sam Howell, Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Fields) have each passed for at least two touchdowns, and Tagovailoa and Fields each had more than 300 passing yards and four touchdowns in the past two games. Wilson will hopefully follow suit, and I love the narrative of Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett facing his former team, especially after current Broncos coach Sean Payton took shots at Hackett this offseason.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Tough day in Dallas

Wilson completed 12 of 27 passes for 170 yards and one touchdown with three interceptions in Sunday's 30-10 loss to the Cowboys. He added 36 rushing yards on five carries. The third-year QB actually led the Jets in rushing, as the Dallas defense put together another dominant performance. Wilson's numbers in the first half were fairly solid, highlighted by a 68-yard TD pass to Garrett Wilson (undisclosed) in the second quarter, but all three of his INTs came on New York's final three drives as he tried to make something happen to bring his team back from a 17-point deficit. Wilson faces another potentially tough matchup in Week 3 against the Patriots.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Named starting QB

Coach Robert Saleh reiterated Tuesday that Wilson is the Jets' starting quarterback after the team confirmed Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles during Monday's overtime win versus the Bills, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. After taking over for Rodgers on New York's fifth offensive snap of the game, Wilson played the final 50 en route to 140 yards passing, one touchdown and one interception. He also had four carries for six yards and was sacked twice for minus-13 yards. Saleh noted that the Jets will add another quarterback at some point to a room that currently includes only practice-squad member Tim Boyle behind Wilson.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Set to start rest of season

Coach Robert Saleh said Wilson will "be the guy" under center for the Jets for the rest of the season after Aaron Rodgers suffered what the team believes is an Achilles injury during Monday's 22-16 overtime win versus the Bills, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Wilson stepped in for Rodgers on the Jets' fifth offensive play after the former Packer left the game. Wilson had his usual struggles, completing 14 of 21 passes for 140 yards, one touchdown and one interception, rushing four times for six yards and getting sacked twice for a loss of 13 yards. His TD to Garrett Wilson with less than five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter tied the contest at 13-13, although the receiver bailed out his quarterback with a highlight-reel effort to reel in a poor throw, and the offense didn't need to take a snap in overtime due to Xavier Gipson's 65-yard punt return for the game-winning score. Moving forward, Wilson the QB will have plenty of skill-position talent to work with in addition to Wilson the wideout, including Breece Hall, Dalvin Cook and Allen Lazard.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Solid in another start

Wilson completed nine of 13 passes for 70 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed twice for 41 yards in the Jets' 13-6 preseason loss to the Buccaneers on Saturday night. Aaron Rodgers once again got the night off, so Wilson's busy preseason continued with another respectable showing. Unlike last week's shutout win over the Panthers, Wilson wasn't able to get the Jets into the end zone, but he had an impact play with a 35 yard-run and remained free of turnovers. The third-year signal-caller appears to have settled in nicely after his abrupt demotion this offseason and may get one final chance to tune up for his No. 2 role behind Rodgers when the Jets face off with the Giants in next Saturday night's exhibition finale.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Draws another preseason start

Wilson is slated to start Saturday's preseason game against the Buccaneers, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. As was the case in last weekend's contest against the Panthers, Wilson will be followed by Tim Boyle, while top QB Aaron Rodgers won't play. As for the Jets' Aug. 26 exhibition finale against the Giants, coach Robert Saleh noted that he has yet to decide if Rodgers will see action.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Solid showing in Saturday's win

Wilson completed 14 of 20 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 27-0 win over Carolina. He added one rushing attempt for two yards. Wilson delivered a decent performance while playing the entire first half. He spent the first two drives surrounded by the majority of New York's starters, with the notable exceptions of top wide receiver Garrett Wilson (ankle) and running back Breece Hall (knee). Wilson's touchdown pass came in the final seconds of the first half, as he found reserve tight end Kenny Yeboah from two yards out. The 24-year-old quarterback figures to see plenty of action over the Jets' two remaining preseason games before settling in as the backup to offseason addition Aaron Rodgers come the regular season.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Getting another preseason start

Wilson will start Saturday's preseason game in Carolina, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Wilson also started the Jets' preseason opener against the Browns, in which he completed three of five passes for 65 yards. Veteran QB Aaron Rodgers reportedly won't be in consideration to take the field until New York's preseason finale, so Wilson should continue to see action ahead of third-stringer Tim Boyle. Coach Robert Saleh declined to confirm whether the starting offense will see the field versus the Panthers.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Draws start Thursday

Wilson completed three of five passes for 65 yards in the Jets' 21-16 preseason loss to the Browns in Thursday night's Hall of Fame Game. Wilson was the first quarterback in with Aaron Rodgers getting the night off, and matters didn't get off on the right foot when he took a sack on the Jets' second play from scrimmage. However, the 2021 first-round pick rebounded on his second possession with a 57-yard completion to Malik Taylor from his own seven-yard line to help set up a Greg Zuerlein field goal. Wilson was in for one more drive, which also culminated in three points off the foot of Zuerlein, before giving way to Tim Boyle. With the Jets having an extra preseason game to work with this summer, Wilson could well start in place of an idle Rodgers again in New York's road preseason battle versus the Panthers a week from Saturday.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Will play Thursday

Head coach Robert Saleh said Wilson will play during Thursday's Hall of Fame preseason game versus Cleveland, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Saleh said he doesn't expect the starters to play at all during Thursday's game, so Wilson, who's expected to be the primary backup to Aaron Rodgers in 2023, figures to get an extended look. Tim Boyle and Chris Streveler will presumably get worked into the mix as well.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Likely staying in NY as backup

The Jets plan to keep Wilson around in a backup role after trading for Aaron Rodgers on Monday, ESPN.com's Rich Cimini reports. The report notes that Wilson and Rodgers have become friends, and the Jets hope they can still salvage something from the No. 2 overall pick down the line in 2024 or 2025. Wilson has completed 55.2 percent of his passes for 6.4 YPA as a pro, showing no real progress last season as he was benched for poor performance on two occasions. With Rodgers set to start in New York for the next year or two, the 23-year-old Wilson drops down the depth chart and may even face a challenge from Tim Boyle for the No. 2 QB job.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Wraps up poor sophomore season

Wilson finished his second season with 1,688 passing yards and a 6:7 TD:INT in nine starts. He added 102 yards and one touchdown on 28 rushing attempts, in addition to catching a two-yard touchdown. Wilson didn't show much progress from his forgettable rookie season, but the team around him improved substantially, allowing him to post a 5-4 record in 2022 after opening his career with a 3-10 record. The second player selected in the 2021 NFL Draft likely will remain on the Jets' roster in the fall, but Wilson won't be handed the starting role and probably will come into camp as the backup. New York's expected to add an alternative under center, either by re-signing Mike White or pursuing a veteran starter via trade or free agency.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Will be healthy inactive Week 17

Head coach Robert Saleh said Monday that Wilson will be a healthy inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Seahawks, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports. Mike White (ribs) was cleared for contact earlier Monday and is in line to reclaim the starting gig, so Saleh is opting to have veteran Joe Flacco operate as the primary backup to White, sending Wilson to the inactive list again. Even if White wasn't cleared, it's possible Wilson would've ceded the starting job to Flacco or Chris Streveler after back-to-back bad outings. Despite Wilson's struggles this year, Saleh remains confident in the 2021 first-round pick, saying the young quarterback still is a big part of the Jets' future, per Brian Costello of the New York Post.
