Giants' Tyler Nubin: Paces team in stops Sunday
Nubin tallied nine tackles (five solo), including one for loss, in Sunday's Week 6 defeat against the Bengals.
Nubin has been racking up tackles of late -- he's led New York in stops three straight weeks and has 26 combined tackles during that span. That puts the rookie firmly on the IDP radar, though he doesn't have any interceptions or sacks so far. Nubin has a stranglehold on the starting role at strong safety for the Giants, having played all of the team's defensive snaps in five out of six games this year.

Giants' Tyler Nubin: Another impressive outing in Week 5
Nubin recorded nine total tackles (seven solo), including one tackle for loss, in Sunday's 29-20 win over the Seahawks.
The Giants' rookie safety appears to be emerging as one of the team's top defensive players over the last two weeks, totaling 17 tackles, including one tackle for loss, and one forced fumble. Nubin has led the Giants' defense in total tackles in back-to-back weeks, bringing his season total up to 30. Expect the Minnesota product to continue improving and making plays as the Giants host the Bengals in Week 6.

Giants' Tyler Nubin: Paces team in tackles Week 1
Nubin tallied seven tackles (five solo) in Sunday's loss to Minnesota.
Nubin got the start at strong safety for New York and played all 55 of the team's defensive snaps. Meanwhile, Dane Belton -- who had at one point appeared to have won the starting role at the position -- played just nine defensive snaps, though it's not clear if the back injury that bothered him throughout the practice week contributed to his limited usage. Regardless, Nubin performed well in his first NFL game and appears set to be a key part of the team's defensive backfield moving forward.

Giants' Tyler Nubin: Could play role Week 1
Nubin may have the opportunity to start at free safety Sunday against the Vikings with Dane Belton (back) currently questionable, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Nubin was believed to have lost the competition to Belton for the role, but he may have the opportunity to seize it after all, with the latter limited in practice this week.

Giants' Tyler Nubin: Back in action
Nubin (calf) returned to practice Thursday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Nubin had been out of action since first missing practice Friday. The Giants' 2024 second-round selection's return to the field should see him competing for a role in the team's secondary. He is currently listed behind Dane Belton at strong safety on the team's depth chart.

Giants' Tyler Nubin: Missing Monday's practice
Head coach Brian Daboll told reporters that Nubin (calf) will miss Monday's practice, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
The 2024 second-round pick out of Minnesota has been hindered by both ankle and calf injuries to begin his NFL career. During Nubin's last three collegiate seasons, the defensive back racked up 160 total tackles and 12 interceptions (five in 2023) across 36 games. Once the rookie returns to full health, he's expected to compete with Dane Belton for the Giants' top strong safety spot, per Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post. If Nubin wins that job, he could be a valuable IDP piece in 2024.

Giants' Tyler Nubin: Being bothered by ankle
Nubin is missing practice Friday due to an ankle injury, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Fortunately for the Giants and Nubin, the issue isn't considered to be serious. He probably won't be out long, but until Nubin is back in playing shape, 2022 fourth-rounder Dane Belton figures to see more opportunities to make an impression during team drills.

Giants' Tyler Nubin: Fills safety need for Big Blue
The Giants selected Nubin in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 47th overall.
Safety is one of the weaker positions in this class, and Nubin is the first to come off the board in the middle of the second round. It's a strong value for the Giants, as they get the best safety in the class after losing Xavier McKinney in free agency this offseason. Nubin got by on impressive instincts at Minnesota with 13 career interceptions. He didn't test at the NFL Combine due to a knee issue and only ran a 4.59 in the 40 at the Gopher pro day, so teams could test his speed down the field. His 207 career tackles show a willingness to get his nose dirty and play the run, which is a strong complement to his coverage chops.
