Joe Berger: Opts for retirement
Berger announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday, Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reports.
Berger was previously thought to have been on board to play a 14th professional season. It's not clear why he may have changed his mind. Regardless, the soon-to-be 36-year-old can look back on a respectable NFL career in which he logged 84 starts in 145 game appearances, suiting up for each of the Vikings, Dolphins, Cowboys and Panthers. With Berger out of the picture, Minnesota could turn to the recently-signed Tom Compton to fill in at right guard, according to ESPN.

Vikings' Joe Berger: Plans to play in 2018
Berger plans to continue his NFL career in 2018, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports.
Berger, who will turn 36 years old in May, had contemplated retirement last offseason, but ultimately returned to the Vikings. It appears he needed less time to decide his future following the past season, though it's uncertain if he'll be retained by Minnesota. The veteran guard will become an unrestricted free agent March 14.

Berger (concussion) was a full participant in Friday's practice and is questionable for Sunday's tilt with the Colts.
Berger's full participation means he passed concussion protocol testing, a reassuring sign that he'll be able to take the field Sunday. Look for updates to come before kickoff, with Nick Easton waiting in the wings should Berger be ruled out.
