  • Saints' Monty Rice: Finds work with New Orleans

The Saints claimed Rice off waivers Wednesday.

Rice was waived by the Titans on Tuesday, and it didn't take him long to land in a new spot. New Orleans may have signed Rice as insurance behind Pete Werner, who missed Week 13 with an oblique injury, though Werner returned to practice in a limited fashion Wednesday. Rice played in 12 games for Tennessee before being let go, and he totaled 26 tackles (14 solo) over 82 defensive snaps.

  • Saints' Malcolm Roach: Placed on IR

The Saints placed Roach (knee) on injured reserve Wednesday, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.

Roach potentially needs knee surgery and will miss at least the next four games before being eligible to return for Week 18. Playing a rotational role along New Orleans' defensive line, Roach has recorded 38 tackles (13 solo), three TFLs and three batted passes.

  • Saints' Marcus Maye: Sent to injured reserve

The Saints placed Maye (shoulder) on injured reserve Wednesday, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.

The veteran safety missed last week's game with the injury and will now be sidelined at least four additional contests. Maye also previously missed four games earlier in the year with a hamstring issue and three-game suspension. Jordan Howden stepped in as the starting safety next to Tyrann Mathieu last Sunday.

  • Saints' Cameron Jordan: DNP Wednesday

Jordan (ankle) did not participate in Wednesday's practice session, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.

Jordan suited up for Week 13 against the Lions -- despite not logging a single practice leading up to the contest -- and played a season-low 16 snaps and registered two tackles. He may not practice leading up to Sunday's game against the Panthers and still manage to play, though he could be on a limited snap count for the second straight week.

  • Saints' Pete Werner: Returns to practice Wednesday

Werner (oblique) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.

Werner missed his first game of the season in Week 13 against the Lions. His return to practice is a sign that he is trending in the right direction for Sunday's game against the Panthers. Werner has 43 tackles (24 solo), including 0.5 sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery in 11 games this year.

  • Saints' Kendre Miller: Continues to deal with injury

Miller (ankle) was a nonparticipant during practice Wednesday. Brooke Kirchhofer of NewOrleans.football reports.

Miller hasn't played or practiced since suffering a sprained ankle Week 9 against the Bears. Considering the amount of time the rookie has missed, he'll likely need to get back on the field Thursday in some capacity to have any chance of suiting up Sunday against the Bears.

  • Saints' Juwan Johnson: Tending to quad injury

Johnson practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday due to a quadriceps injury, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.

Johnson previously sat out Weeks 4 through 7 due to a calf issue, but it's unclear if the current health concern may impact his availability for Sunday's game against the Panthers. His snap share, when available, has been fairly consistent, ranging from 57 to 81 percent, but he's managed only an 18-142-1 line on 32 targets in his eight appearances this season.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Officially limited Wednesday

Carr (concussion/rib/right shoulder) practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.

Just three days removed from sustaining a concussion in addition to injuries to his ribs and right shoulder, Carr was able throw and even sprint during the portion of Wednesday's session open to the media. Coach Dennis Allen told Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football that Carr remains in the protocol for head injuries but "feels pretty good" with the other two health concerns. Still, Carr's availability will be subject to an independent neurologist in order to play Sunday versus the Panthers, and this time around he won't have the benefit of a bye week to do so like he did after getting concussed back in Week 10.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Remains sidelined Wednesday

Shaheed (thigh) didn't practice Wednesday, Brooke Kirchhofer of New Orleans Football reports.

Shaheed missed this past Sunday's loss to the Lions after injuring his thigh in Week 12 against the Falcons. He hasn't practiced since sustaining the injury, but the speedy receiver and kick returner still has two more chances to return to practice before the Saints host the Panthers on Sunday. With Michael Thomas (knee) on injured reserve, Shaheed could be in store for a larger role on offense if he's able to recover from his thigh injury.

  • Saints' Taysom Hill: Has pair of injuries

Hill didn't practice Wednesday due to foot and left hand injuries, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Hill's weekly role in the Saints offense seemingly is matchup dependent, with his carry counts ranging from one to 13 and targets from one to eight this season. Overall, he's tallied 575 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns and also recorded one TD through the air in 12 games. With health concerns now in tow, though, Hill has joined starting quarterback Derek Carr (concussion/shoulder/rib) on the team's Week 14 injury report. Hill will have two more sessions this week to put himself in a position to play Sunday against the Panthers.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Takes part in practice Wednesday

Carr (concussion/shoulder/ribs) was seen at the media-access portion of Wednesday's practice, Brooke Kirchhofer of NewOrleans.Football reports.

Carr was driven into the ground during this past Sunday's loss to the Lions, incurring a roughing the passer penalty and also a trio of injuries. On Monday, coach Dennis Allen told John Hendrix of SI.com that Carr's shoulder appeared to check out OK, but the quarterback was in the concussion protocol for the second time in a three-game span and also had a rib issue. Considering he looked like himself while throwing passes and also sprinted at one point Wednesday, Carr seems likely to be at least a limited participant to kick off Week 14 prep.
