Kane scored his first goal as a Red Wing in a 5-1 loss to the Senators on Saturday. Kane had almost scored early in the first, but Joonas Korpisalo came hard across the crease to make a pad save. Kane was able to beat Korpisalo under the netminder's glove from the right dot on a 4-on-3 power play to tie the game 1-1 at 14:49 of the first. The power play came after a melee following Dylan Larkin's injury. The goal was a patented Kaner snipe, so it's clear he's good to go following his delayed start to the 2023-24 campaign.... Red Wings' Patrick Kane: Solid in season debut
Kane (hip) logged 16:33 of ice time in Thursday's 6-5 overtime loss to San Jose. Kane fired three shots, had two others blocked and rang the post in the third period, and it was an otherwise strong performance in his first game in seven months. He had hip resurfacing surgery June 1. At this point, it's a matter of timing and getting comfortable in a new jersey for Kane, who has put up 1,237 points (451 goals, 786 assists) in his NHL career.... See More ... See Less -
Red Wings' Patrick Kane: Ready to make season debut Thursday
Kane (hip) is expected to make his season debut Thursday versus San Jose. Kane signed a one-year, $2.75 million contract with the Red Wings on Nov. 28. It's not yet confirmed how Detroit will utilize him Thursday, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the 35-year-old play alongside his former Blackhawks linemate Alex DeBrincat and also serve on the first power-play unit. Kane had 21 goals and 57 points in 73 contests between Chicago and the Rangers last season.... See More ... See Less -
Red Wings' Patrick Kane: Should play in 7-10 days
Kane (hip) told reporters he could play against the Rangers on Wednesday but will instead wait 7-10 days to make his Red Wings debut in order to get acclimated to his new team, Dan Rosen of NHL.com reports. Based on Kane's timeline, he could be ready to suit up versus the Sharks on Dec. 7 or the Senators on Dec. 10. Early indications from coach Derek Lalonde are that Kane will play with former Blackhawks teammate Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Larkin (undisclosed) on the top line once he's ready.... See More ... Red Wings' Patrick Kane: Detroit debut undetermined
Kane (hip) is unlikely to make his Red Wings debut this week, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reports. Kane needs to get practice with his new team after officially signing a contract Tuesday. The 35-year-old winger will likely be out of action for the next three games at a minimum. If he debuts early next week, he would don the Winged Wheel for the first time in his hometown of Buffalo next Tuesday, though no official timeline is available.... See More ... See Less -
Red Wings' Patrick Kane: Signs with Detroit
Kane (hip) signed a one-year, $2.75 million contract with the Red Wings on Tuesday, PuckPedia.com reports. Although as many as six teams had reportedly been in the mix to sign Kane over the past few months, the Red Wings emerged as the favorite to land the veteran winger's services in recent days -- according to Steve Warne of The Hockey News, Kane has already "been quietly skating in Detroit for the last few days." Although it's unclear when Kane will be ready to make his Wings debut, the fact that he's already been skating at the team's practice rink suggests he could be ready to play sooner rather than later. Once he's given the green light, look for Kane, who racked up 21 goals and 57 points through 73 games between the Blackhawks and the Rangers last year, to reunite with former Chicago teammate Alex DeBrincat on Detroit's second line while also seeing time on one of the Red Wings' power-play units.... Patrick Kane: Expected to sign with Wings
Kane (hip) is expected to finalize a one-year contract with the Red Wings on Tuesday, Emily Kaplan of ESPN.com reports. Kane will almost certainly be thrust into a top-six role with the Wings, perhaps replacing Joe Veleno on the top line to play alongside Dylan Larkin or with old friend Alex DeBrincat on the second line. In addition to his even-strength role, the veteran winger should be in the mix for a spot with the No. 1 power-play unit, though he's reportedly told the club that's not a prerequisite. After undergoing a major hip procedure, it's hard for fantasy players to know exactly what they will be getting out of Kane, but certainly a 40-50 point campaign, depending on when he first suits up for his new club, is not out of the question. Initial reports weren't clear when Kane might officially sign, though it likely won't be long.... See More ... See Less -
Patrick Kane: Clear for contact
Kane's agent Pat Brisson said Thursday that the winger has been cleared for contact as he recovers from hip surgery, Mario Tirabassi of CHGO Sports reports. Kane is expected to start seriously considering offers from teams in November. The 34-year-old appears on track to be back in game action in the near future, but his fantasy value will largely hinge on what kind of role his new team gives him. Kane underwent hip resurfacing surgery in June.... See More ... See Less -
Patrick Kane: Resumes skating
Kane (hip) has resumed skating and may be ahead of schedule in his recovery from hip resurfacing surgery, John Wawrow of The Associated Press reports. Kane was initially given a 4-6 month recovery timeline when he underwent the surgery in June, but it's now possible he could be ready before the start of the season if he avoids setbacks over the next month. The winger remains unsigned and is expecting to receive contract offers once training camps open in mid-September. Kane added "If someone wanted to come and give an offer that I was excited about, and a situation that I'm excited about, it's not like I wouldn't be listening just because of the situation I'm in," suggesting he could sign with a team ahead of camp. The star winger would likely slot into a top-six role with any team while also being in line for significant power-play time.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Patrick Kane: Has hip resurfacing
Kane underwent hip resurfacing Thursday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. Kane is expected to need four-to-six months to recover from the procedure, so his availability for the start of the 2023-24 campaign is very questionable. He recorded 21 goals and 57 points in 73 contests between Chicago and the Rangers in 2022-23 and contributed another goal and six points in seven playoff outings this year. Kane has completed his eight-year, $84 million contract and is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Patrick Kane: Played through lower-body injury
Kane was dealing with a lower-body injury during the playoffs, per Dan Rosen of NHL.com. Kane still managed to record a goal and six points in seven playoff games while averaging 17:21 of ice time. With the Rangers' postseason run over, he will focus on his health issue and hopes to find out soon if he'll need surgery. Kane has completed his eight-year, $84 million contract and is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Patrick Kane: Adds another helper
Kane recorded an assist in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Devils. Kane picked up an assist on Vincent Trocheck's tally early in the third period, the Rangers' lone goal in the contest. The 34-year-old Kane has recorded at least a point in every game so far in the series, tallying a goal and five assists. He logged 21 goals and 57 points in 73 regular-season contests between New York and Chicago.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Patrick Kane: Stays warm with helper
Kane provided an assist, four shots on goal and two PIM in Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Devils. Kane has a goal, four helpers and 11 shots on net through three playoff contests. His 12 points in 19 regular-season games with the Rangers following his trade from Chicago didn't stand out, but he's clicked with Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider in the postseason. Kane's playmaking and power-play work should continue to lead to strong offense during the playoffs.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Patrick Kane: Climbing ranks of U.S.-born stars
Kane had a goal and two assists in a 5-1 win over the Devils on Thursday in Game 2. It was Kane's best game in a Rangers uniform since arriving in a three-player trade on Feb. 28. He made it 4-1 early in the third when he broke into the Devils' zone down the left wing before cutting across the crease and lofting a backhander over Vitek Vanecek's left arm. It was Kane's ninth career three-point playoff game, tying him with Chris Chelios for fourth most in NHL history by a U.S.-born player. And the goal was Kane's 53rd in the postseason, which ties him with Jeremy Roenick for fourth most among American players.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Patrick Kane: Bags power-play assist
Kane recorded a power-play assists in Tuesday's 5-1 victory over New Jersey in Game 1. Since returning from a brief two-game absence, Kane has notched three assists in his last four contests. Still, the Buffalo native remains stuck in a seven-game goal drought during which he put just 13 shots on net. Even with the slump, Kane should be considered a top-end fantasy target heading into Game 2 on Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Patrick Kane: Expected to play
Kane (lower body) is expected to play Saturday against Columbus, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports. Kane, who sat out the past two games, has collected five goals, five assists and 39 shots on net in 16 games with the Rangers since being acquired from Chicago on Feb. 28. He is projected to be back on the top line alongside Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Patrick Kane: Skates Saturday, game-time decision
Kane (lower body) practiced Saturday morning but will be a game-time call against the Blue Jackets, per Colin Stephenson of Newsday. Kane has missed two games while recovering from a lower-body injury. He could rejoin the lineup Saturday against the Blue Jackets, though the Rangers could elect to get Kane some extra rest with a playoff spot already clinched. The 34-year-old winger has 21 goals and 55 points in 70 games between New York and Chicago.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Patrick Kane: Not playing Thursday
Kane (lower body) won't play Thursday versus the Blues, Mollie Walker of the New York Post reports. Kane will miss his second straight game with the injury, though head coach Gerard Gallant said it remains a precautionary move from the Rangers. The star winger's next chance to play is Saturday versus the Blue Jackets.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Patrick Kane: Questionable Thursday
Kane (lower body) is questionable for Thursday's game in St. Louis. Kane missed Wednesday's game versus Tampa Bay, the first game he has missed since arriving from the Blackhawks. Kane has five goals and 10 points in 16 games with the Rangers, after picking up 16 markers and 29 assists in 54 games with Chicago. He will likely be a game-time decision.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Patrick Kane: Will miss Wednesday's game
Kane (lower body) won't be in the lineup against Tampa Bay on Wednesday, per Dan Rosen of NHL.com. Coach Gerard Gallant described the decision to scratch Kane as being more about maintenance than anything. With the playoffs around the corner, it's not surprising to see the Rangers opt to rest Kane, who has 21 goals and 55 points in 70 outings this season, rather than have him test the injury. He might still play Thursday versus St. Louis. In the meantime, the Rangers are projected to dress seven defensemen Wednesday with Ryan Lindgren (upper body) playing for the first time since March 21.... See More ... See Less
