  • Blackhawks' T.J. Brodie: Crowded out of lineup

Brodie was scratched for the 17th game in a row Sunday in a 3-1 win over the Penguins. Brodie had an assist in a March 1 win over the Ducks, but he hasn't been in the lineup since. The Blackhawks already looked to be pivoting to evaluation mode at the time. Since then, Artyom Levshunov and Kevin Korchinski were called up from AHL Rockford and Sam Rinzel was signed out of the University of Minnesota. Connor Murphy was the only veteran blueliner in the lineup Sunday, and it seems unlikely Brodie will get the nod over fellow scratches Louis Crevier or Ethan Del Mastro should the Blackhawks mix things up over their last five games. Brodie is under contract for 2025-26, but he could be limited to part-time duties if he isn't bought out or traded to make room for younger players.

  • Blackhawks' T.J. Brodie: Avoids scratch, snaps slump

Brodie logged an assist and went plus-2 in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Ducks. Brodie was heading toward his second scratch in three games, but the Blackhawks swung a deal to send Seth Jones to the Panthers prior to puck drop. This move forced Brodie back into the lineup, and he ended his 16-game point drought when he helped out on Teuvo Teravainen's second-period goal. Brodie's helper was the 300th of his career, a milestone he achieved in his 962nd game. His flaws have been exposed in the Blackhawks' lineup this year -- Brodie has 10 points, a minus-18 rating, 23 shots on net and 58 blocked shots over 54 outings. Losing a veteran like Jones may help Brodie stay in the lineup down the stretch, but it's also possible Chicago will want to evaluate the readiness of some prospects.

  • Blackhawks' T.J. Brodie: Cold on offense again

Brodie was held off the scoresheet for the 11th game in a row Wednesday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Oilers. Brodie was scratched twice in that span, though he should face less pressure for playing time as long as Louis Crevier (concussion) is out of action. Brodie has mainly handled bottom-four minutes this season, and he hasn't produced much in any area. The veteran blueliner has nine points, 20 shots on net, 53 blocked shots and a minus-18 rating over 48 appearances.

  • Blackhawks' T.J. Brodie: Hands out assist in loss

Brodie notched an assist and went minus-2 in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Rangers. Brodie ended a seven-game point drought with the helper. The 34-year-old defenseman has been limited to bottom-four minutes for much of the campaign, which further depresses his already-low scoring potential. He's contributed nine points, 16 shots on net, 45 blocked shots, 13 hits, 12 PIM and a minus-18 rating through 37 appearances. A lack of offense and insufficient non-scoring production makes Brodie a non-factor in the vast majority of fantasy formats.

The veteran blueliner blasted a shot through traffic midway through the third period that eluded Ilya Sorokin, starting a late rally that nearly erased a 5-1 deficit. • Blackhawks' T.J. Brodie: Earns helper against old team

Brodie notched an assist in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Maple Leafs. Brodie has been decent lately with three helpers over his last seven outings, though he has a minus-2 rating in that span. The 34-year-old is up to five assists, 28 blocked shots, 10 shots on net and a minus-7 rating through 22 contests overall. His average ice time (15:34) is the lowest mark of his career, and coupled with minimal scoring upside, it makes him a poor choice to fill out the blue line of a fantasy roster.

  • Blackhawks' T.J. Brodie: Nabs assist in loss

Brodie posted an assist in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Ducks. Brodie had been held off the scoresheet over his last 10 appearances, and he also had a three-game stint in the press box during that drought. The defenseman helped out on Jason Dickinson's first-period tally. Brodie is at three assists, six shots on net, 20 blocked shots and a minus-5 rating over 16 contests this season. He's playing in a bottom-four role and has virtually no upside on a low-scoring team.

  • Blackhawks' T.J. Brodie: Pockets helper Thursday

Brodie notched an assist and two blocked shots in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Sharks. Brodie set up Taylor Hall's opening tally in the first period. With two assists through five appearances, Brodie is providing some depth offense in a bottom-four role on the blue line. The veteran defenseman has added two shots on net, eight blocked shots and a minus-1 rating. He's long removed from being a perennial lock for 30 points, so his fantasy value is limited outside of formats that reward blocks.

  • Blackhawks' T.J. Brodie: Manages assist in win

Brodie recorded an assist and blocked two shots in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Oilers. Brodie helped out on a Connor Bedard goal in the second period, which stood as the game-winner. The helper was Brodie's first point in three games with the Blackhawks. The veteran defenseman has added one shot on goal, three blocked shots, one hit and a minus-2 rating. He's topped the 20-point mark in two of the last five seasons, but he was over 30 points in each of the six years before that, so it's unlikely he returns to his former glory on offense.

  • Blackhawks' T.J. Brodie: Inks two-year deal

Brodie signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract with the Blackhawks on Monday. Brodie had a goal, 26 points, 40 PIM, 41 hits and 159 blocked shots in 78 regular-season contests with Toronto in 2023-24. He'll likely serve in a top-four capacity at even strength in 2024-25 but almost certainly won't be utilized on the power play.

Brodie picked up an assist in Monday's 3-2 overtime victory over the Penguins. Brodie set up Matthew Knies with a net-front feed early in the second period, tying the game 1-1. • Maple Leafs' T.J. Brodie: Really struggling this season

Brodie has two assists in his last four games. Brodie isn't really a fantasy guy, so the points aren't much of a help. His usual steady defensive game has been somewhat queasy this season, though, and that's a troubling trend for the Leafs. Brodie's turnover rate has jumped, and his defensive zone exit success has declined. More troubling, the Leafs have allowed 39 goals at 5-on-5 with Brodie on the ice (44 games), which is one more than they did in his 58 games last season. And he has really struggled when pressured by opposing forecheckers, coughing up the puck a lot more often and failing to get clean exits on dump-ins. None of this reflects on his fantasy line, but it does influence the lines of his goaltenders. And it could get Brodie shifted off the top pairing and away from Morgan Rielly.

Brodie picked up an assist Saturday in a 7-4 win over the Wild. He had two shots Saturday and finished plus-1. Brodie is a pillar on Toronto's blue line, but he's more focused on stopping pucks than scoring with them. He'll play an important stabilizing role, especially for his netminders Ilya Samsonov and Joseph Woll, but that doesn't show up on any stat line. Expect a 20-25 point season from Brodie.
