He was beginning to look more comfortable in the Wild's lineup, but the returns of Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek from their respective lower-body injuries bumped Nyquist down to the third line Wednesday. It'll be tough for Nyquist to be productive in a limited role. He's at just 27 points, 100 shots on net, 44 hits and a minus-23 rating over 76 appearances between the Wild and the Predators this season.

• Wild's Gustav Nyquist: Two-point effort in OT loss

The veteran winger opened the scoring exactly nine minutes into the first period before setting up Marcus Johansson for a shortie midway through the second. It was Nyquist's first multi-point performance since the first game of 2025, and he's had a tough time adjusting since being shipped north by the Predators at the trade deadline. Over 16 appearances with the Wild, Nyquist has just one goal and five points.

Nyquist helped out on Liam Ohgren's first-period tally, which stretched the Wild's lead to 3-0 early on. This was Nyquist's second helper over nine appearances since the Wild acquired him in a trade with the Predators. He hasn't exactly provided a boost to Minnesota's offense, as his struggles from Nashville have followed him north. For the season, the winger is at 23 points, 85 shots on net, 34 hits and a minus-21 rating through 66 outings.

The 35-year-old has claimed a top-six role in his second stint with the team, but he's not doing enough on offense to justify a roster spot in fantasy. Dating back to his time with the Predators, he has just two helpers across his last 16 outings. For the season, Nyquist is at 22 points, 81 shots on net, 33 hits and a minus-22 rating over 63 appearances.

• Wild's Gustav Nyquist: Traded Saturday

  Nyquist was acquired by Minnesota from Nashville on Saturday in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick. A move involving Nyquist was anticipated after the Predators announced that he wouldn't play Saturday versus the Islanders for trade-related reasons. The 35-year-old has nine goals and 21 points in 57 appearances in 2024-25. That's a steep decline from his 75-point showing across 81 regular-season outings in 2023-24, but it's not an entirely shocking drop given how much of an outlier his performance was -- he's hit the 50-point mark just three other times in his career, and his next best campaign offensively was 2018-19 when he recorded 60 points. Nyquist will probably serve in a middle-six capacity and might see some power-play time in Minnesota.

It was enough to change the direction of the puck and get it through Jake Oettinger in the first period. Nyquist has struggled this season, like almost all of the Predators, and he has just 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists) in 53 games after establishing a career high with 75 points, including 52 assists, the year before. This best-on-best play could be the boost Nyquist needs to bring up his game for the rest of the season.

He struck at 3:58 of this contest with a tally past Yaroslav Askarov. Nyquist is up to eight goals, 19 points, 58 shots on net and a minus-18 rating through 46 appearances, so he'll still be tough to trust in fantasy. He has just two points during a five-game span in which the Predators have scored 27 times.

He's at seven goals, 10 assists, 52 shots on net and a minus-15 rating over 40 appearances. If Nashville's offense remains unreliable, Nyquist is not the kind of player who can buck that trend.

Since the start of November, he has four goals and seven assists over 28 appearances, and all of those tallies have gone into empty nets. That makes his total of 16 points in 38 contests -- already a fairly poor mark for a top-six forward -- a bit misleading, as he hasn't scored against a goaltender since Oct. 28 versus the Lightning. After producing 23 goals and 75 points in the 2023-24 regular season, Nyquist may struggle to get to the 40-point mark this season.
