  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Starting against Devils

Grubauer will start on the road versus the Devils, per Sound of Hockey. Grubauer has lost five straight starts, allowing 19 goals on 130 shots (.854 save percentage) over that stretch. The 33-year-old netminder will handle the second half of a back-to-back, but the Devils are a tough opponent. They have averaged 3.54 goals per game this season.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Cannot catch a break

Grubauer made 19 saves in an 8-5 loss to the Sharks on Friday. He allowed seven goals. Friday's shinny game was great for fans, but bad for netminders and especially bad for one with just a single win on the season. Grubauer's season has been more than a struggle, and he sits with a 1-7-0 record, 3.62 GAA and .862 save percentage. He last recorded a season with a save percentage above .899 in 2020-21 (.922; Colorado). Yikes. Grubauer is better served on the wire, where some other manager might think he's worth the risk.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Starting Friday

Grubauer will patrol the road crease Friday against the Sharks, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. The 32-year-old has been struggling all season long and has gone 1-6-0 with a 3.11 GAA and an .881 save percentage over seven starts. This will be his first start since Nov. 17, when he lost 2-0 to the Rangers. The Sharks average 2.64 goals per game this season, the 10th-worst mark in the league.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Gets no help in loss

Grubauer stopped 21 of 23 shots in Sunday's 2-0 loss to the Rangers. Grubauer kept the game close, but an Alexis Lafreniere backdoor tap-in in the second period and a Zac Jones blast from the faceoff circle in the third were enough to sink him. This was Grubauer's first action since Nov. 5 -- he missed three games due to an accident at home. The 32-year-old is now 1-6-0 with a 3.11 GAA and an .881 save percentage over seven starts. Joey Daccord has been better by every measure and will likely continue to see a slight edge in starts, especially since the Kraken don't have a back-to-back for nearly two weeks.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Guarding home crease

Grubauer will be in the blue paint for Sunday's home matchup against the Rangers, Colin Stephenson of Newsday relays. Grubauer will make his first start since allowing five goals in a loss to Colorado on Nov. 5. The 32-year-old has lost three consecutive contests, and he's 1-5-0 with an .877 save percentage and a 3.27 GAA through six appearances. The Rangers rank fifth in the league with 3.67 goals per game through 15 contests.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Will dress Thursday

Grubauer (undisclosed) will serve as the backup against Chicago on Thursday, Alison Lukan of the Kraken Hockey Network reports. While Grubauer takes a spot at the end of the bench, it will be Joey Daccord who gets the starting nod at home versus the Blackhawks. It's been a tough start to the season for the 32-year-old Grubauer, as he is sporting a 1-5-0 record, 3.27 GAA and .877 save percentage. At this point, even with the German netminder healthy, he seems to have fallen behind Daccord as the No. 2 option in Seattle.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Won't suit up Tuesday

Grubauer (undisclosed) will not be in the lineup for Tuesday's home contest versus the Blue Jackets, according to Kate Shefte of The Seattle Times. Grubauer joined the team at practice Monday, but he's not yet ready to return. Ales Stezka will be Joey Daccord's understudy against Columbus on Tuesday. Grubauer has had a rough start to the season -- he's 1-5-0 with an. .877 save percentage and 3.27 GAA through six appearances.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Returns to practice Monday

Grubauer (undisclosed) returned to practice Monday, Mike Benton of the Kraken Audio Network reports. Head coach Dan Bylsma said after Monday's practice session that he isn't yet sure whether Grubauer will be able to return to the lineup for Tuesday's home game against Columbus since the goaltender is still undergoing evaluation. However, it was encouraging to see Grubauer return to practice after he was forced to miss Friday's game against Vegas due to an accident he suffered while at home.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Day-to-day with undisclosed injury

Grubauer had an accident while at home. While he's not seriously injured, he isn't expected to be available for Friday's home game against Vegas and is day-to-day beyond that, Mike Benton of the Kraken Audio Network reports Thursday. Grubauer has a 1-5-0 record, 3.27 GAA and .877 save percentage in six appearances in 2024-25. Joey Daccord will likely start against the Golden Knights, and Ales Stezka or Niklas Kokko will probably be recalled from AHL Coachella Valley to serve as the understudy.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Loses third straight start

Grubauer allowed five goals on 30 shots in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Avalanche. The sixth goal was an empty-netter. Grubauer has been losing playing time lately, and he didn't do anything to help his cause in this game. This was his third straight loss, and the five goals allowed were a season high for the 32-year-old netminder. He's now 1-5-0 with a 3.27 GAA and an .877 save percentage over six games. After a 1-4-0 road trip for the Kraken, the crease could be up for grabs again, and it could turn into a situation where the hot hand between Grubauer and Joey Daccord ends up claiming the starting job.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Set to start Tuesday

Grubauer is expected to start on the road against Colorado on Tuesday, per Ryan Boulding of NHL.com. Grubauer has a record of 1-4-0 with a 2.90 GAA and an .886 save percentage in five contests. He had an amazing season with the Avalanche in 2020-21 in which he posted a 30-9-1 record, 1.95 GAA and .922 save percentage, but he's finished with a save percentage below .900 in each regular season since that campaign. The Avalanche are off to a rough start this year with a 5-7-0 record, but they still rank a decent 12th offensively with 3.33 goals per game, so Colorado is capable of challenging its former goaltender.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Receives no support in loss

Grubauer stopped 20 of 22 shots in Saturday's 3-0 loss to the Senators. The third goal was an empty-netter. The Kraken have scored 13 goals over the last five games, but eight of them came in one contest versus the Canadiens. This is the second time in five starts Grubauer has received no goal support, and those two shutouts against account for half of his losses. The 32-year-old is 1-4-0 with a 2.89 GAA and an .886 save percentage. Massachusetts native Joey Daccord is likely to start Sunday in Boston to close out the Kraken's weekend back-to-back set.

Grubauer will protect the road goal versus the Senators on Saturday, per TSN 1200 Ottawa reports. Grubauer alternated starts with Joey Daccord over the first eight games of the year, but the latter has since claimed the No. 1 job. Grubauer will get his start since he lost 3-2 to the Avalanche on Oct. 22. The 32-year-old has surrendered 12 goals on 101 shots en route to a 1-3-0 record over four outings this season.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Struggling to start season

Grubauer allowed three goals on 28 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Colorado. Through four appearances, Grubauer has given up at least three goals on three occasions, and he's been on the hook for three losses. It wouldn't be surprising to see Joey Daccord take the No. 1 netminding role, at least in the short term -- he's won all three of his starts to open the 2024-25 campaign. Grubauer has a 1-3-0 record, .881 save percentage and 3.10 GAA.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Starting versus former team

Grubauer will protect the home goal versus the Avalanche on Tuesday, Kate Shefte of The Seattle Times reports. Grubauer will make his fourth start of the season as the Kraken continue to alternate between him and Joey Daccord. Grubauer has allowed nine goals on 73 shots, but he won his last start despite allowing four goals to Philadelphia. The 32-year-old netminder played three years with the Avalanche, the last of which was his lone 30-win campaign in the NHL.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Picks up first win of season

Grubauer stopped 21 of 25 shots in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Flyers. Grubauer finally got some goal support, and he needed it. A four-goal explosion in the second period lifted the Kraken to the win, which was their first victory with Grubauer between the pipes this season. He's allowed nine goals on 73 shots over his three starts. So far, Seattle has alternated between Grubauer and Joey Daccord -- if that continues, Daccord is penciled in to start versus the Flames on Saturday, while Grubauer would get his former team, the Avalanche, on Tuesday.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: No help in loss

Grubauer stopped 21 of 23 shots in Sunday's 2-0 loss to the Stars. Aside from a 13-second span late in the first period, Grubauer was excellent. He gave up two goals in that stretch, and that was enough to sink the Kraken in this contest. Grubauer has allowed five goals on 48 shots over his first two starts this year, so he's a little unlucky to be 0-2-0. The good news is that the Kraken's defensive system is working fairly well early in the year, but that hasn't always led to success for the team's goalies.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Tending twine Sunday

Grubauer will be between the pipes for Sunday's road contest versus Dallas, per the NHL media site. Grubauer will draw his second start of the season with the Kraken on the second half of a back-to-back. The 32-year-old made 22 saves on 25 shots in Tuesday's season-opening loss against the Blues. Joey Daccord started Saturday's 5-4 shootout win over the Wild. It remains to be seen whether the two goalies are in a timeshare or if Grubauer will get the majority of starts outside of back-to-back situations.

  • Kraken's Philipp Grubauer: Two-minute collapse leads to loss

Grubauer made 22 saves in a 3-2 loss to St. Louis on Tuesday. Seattle was up 2-0 halfway through the second when Jordan Kyrou went five-hole on the power play. It started a mini-collapse, with St. Louis scoring three times in a span of 1:55. Grubauer's teammates were quick post-game to say they'd taken their foot off the gas, but some of it was on him. The final two goals both went glove side, so we have to wonder if that's the book on the German twinetender. Grubauer will be pushed by the rising Joey Daccord, so he needs to get in groove early to set a rhythm.

Grubauer posted a 14-16-2 record with two shutouts, a 2.85 GAA and an .899 save percentage in 36 appearances during the 2023-24 regular season.
