  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Eligible to return

Rielly has served his five-game suspension and will be available Thursday versus the Golden Knights, per CapFriendly.

Rielly's appeal was denied Tuesday, so he had to miss Wednesday's game versus the Coyotes. His return will be a welcome sight for the Maple Leafs, who are missing Mark Giordano (personal), William Lagesson (upper body) and Conor Timmins (illness) on the blue line. Rielly's return will likely result in Marshall Rifai exiting the lineup, though that may not be confirmed until close to puck drop Thursday.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Suspension upheld

Rielly's five-game suspension for cross-checking Ottawa's Ridly Greig on Feb. 10 was affirmed by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman on Tuesday.

As a result, Rielly will be eligible to return to the lineup Thursday against Vegas. He has racked up seven goals, 43 points, 132 shots on net and 95 blocked shots over 50 games this season.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Appealing suspension

Rielly is expected to appeal his five-game suspension, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reports Wednesday.

Rielly has already missed one game due to his suspension. While the Vancouver native is stuck in an eight-game goal drought, he has racked up eight helpers over that stretch, including four with the man advantage. Jake McCabe figures to continue substituting into the No. 1 power-play unit while Rielly is on the shelf.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Receives five-game suspension

Rielly was suspended five games for cross-checking the Senators' Ridly Greig in Saturday's contest.

Rielly was offered an in-person hearing, but the suspension will sit at five games despite the league's leeway to go for six or more. The defenseman will be out for just over a week, and he will be eligible to return Feb. 22 versus the Golden Knights during the Maple Leafs' upcoming road trip.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Offered in-person hearing

The NHL Department of Player Safety announced Sunday that Rielly was offered an in-person hearing for cross-checking Ottawa's Ridly Greig in Saturday's contest.

The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at the NHL's New York office. An in-person hearing opens the possibility for Rielly to be suspended for six or more games. The 29-year-old blueliner was assessed a five-minute major for cross-checking and a game misconduct at 19:54 of the third period in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Senators. Rielly has generated seven goals, 43 points, 132 shots on net and 95 blocked shots over 50 games this season.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: May face supplemental discipline

Rielly, who picked up an assist in Saturday's 5-3 loss to Ottawa, may face supplemental discipline after cross-checking Ridly Greig in the head late in the game.

Rielly took offense to Greig, who wound up and fired a slap shot into the empty Leafs net with six seconds left in the game. The defender leveled him by cross-checking him on the side of the head, and he received a major penalty and a game misconduct. It was an ugly play. Rielly had already extended his point streak to five games and six assists earlier in the game. More to come, but you should be prepared to replace him this week. Other players have done similar things late in games and have received four-to-six games, regardless of first offense.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Helps out on power play

Rielly notched a power-play assist and two shots on goal in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Islanders.

Rielly has six helpers over his last five games, and his last three assists have all come on the power play. The 29-year-old defenseman is up to 41 points through 48 appearances, matching his output from 65 games a year ago. He's added 125 shots on net, 92 blocked shots, 39 hits and an even plus-minus rating, and 15 of his points have come with the man advantage.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Great season continues

Rielly delivered two assists Saturday in a 6-4 loss to the Canucks.

Rielly is having the second-best season of his career following his 72-point outburst from 2018-19. His 37 points put him in a tie with Rasmus Dahlin for seventh in scoring among defensemen, and it projects to a 69-point campaign. His 118 shots are the fifth-most from defenders this season. Given the Leafs' potent forward corps, Rielly should be a lock for elite output for fantasy managers.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Provides helper in loss

Rielly managed an assist, two shots on goal, three hits and two PIM in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Red Wings.

Rielly took his first penalty of the season for hooking midway through the second period. The defenseman has taken his offense up a notch with seven points in as many games in January, giving him six goals and 28 helpers over 41 contests this season. He's added 101 shots on net, 34 hits, 81 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating. While Rielly probably isn't Norris material, if he can stay out of the sin bin, he could get some buzz for the Lady Byng.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Scores goal, assist versus Sharks

Rielly scored a power-play goal on six shots and registered an assist in Tuesday's 7-1 rout of San Jose.

Rielly has three multi-point games over his last six contests, registering eight points over that stretch including five power-play helpers. With his goal, the blueliner ended a 12-game goal drought that dated back to Dec. 11 versus the Islanders. Rielly is well on his way to matching his 2021-22 numbers when he put up 10 goals and 58 assists in 82 games.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Reaches 25-assist mark

Rielly posted two assists, four shots on goal and three blocked shots in Wednesday's 2-1 overtime win over the Ducks.

Rielly helped out on both of the Maple Leafs' goals as they pulled off a comeback win. He has nine helpers, including five on the power play, over the last nine games. The defenseman was projected for a down season in 2023-24, but he's been at his usual level with 29 points (10 on the power play), 86 shots on net, 76 blocked shots and a plus-2 rating through 36 outings. He's on pace to exceed 60 points for the third time in his 11-year career.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Three helpers in Columbus

Rielly recorded three assists, two on the power play, in Friday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Blue Jackets.

It's the blueliner's first multi-point performance since Nov. 19, but Rielly has been plenty productive in between. He's collected a goal and 11 points in his last 11 games. Rielly is on pace to post the second 60-point campaign of his career with four goals and 27 points through 33 contests this campaign.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Starting to heat up

Rielly has one goal and seven assists in his last 10 games.

The run has pushed Rielly up the ranks of scoring defenders, and he sits in a three-way tie for 14th overall with Jakob Chychrun of Ottawa and Travis Sanheim of Philadelphia with 24 points. Of those 16 players in the top 14, Rielly has just seven power-play points, which is the third lowest in the group. That's a bit of a surprise given the Leafs' 25.5 power-play percentage. Toronto's first power-play unit has Auston Matthews, William Nylander, Mitchell Marner and John Tavares, and there are only so many touches available. However, three of Rielly's recent seven assists came on the man advantage, so he could be climbing the defensive scoring ranks soon.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Forces OT with late goal

Rielly scored a goal on five shots in Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Islanders.

Rielly tied the game at 3-3 with just seven seconds remaining in the third period, burying a rebound off a John Tavares shot to force overtime. Rielly now has points in three straight games after picking up assists in each of his previous two contests -- he had just one point over his five contests before the streak. Overall, the 29-year-old blueliner is up to 19 points (four goals, 15 assists) with a plus-3 rating, 52 blocked shots and 22 hits through 25 outings this year.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Three points in Sunday's win

Rielly scored a goal on a team-high five shots on net and added two assists, including one on the power play, in Sunday's 4-3 overtime win over the Wild.

It's the fourth multi-point performance in the last 12 games for the 29-year-old, as Rielly re-asserts himself as the top man on the Toronto blue line. He's piled up three goals and 12 points over that stretch, and with John Klingberg (undisclosed) potentially headed for long-term injured reserve, Rielly's spot on the Leafs' potent power play should be secure.
