The veteran netminder appeared to be headed for a regulation victory until Pavel Zacha took a holding penalty late in the third period, and Anze Kopitar potted the tying tally on the subsequent power play. The Bruins then had a power-play chance of their own in OT, but instead, the Kings killed it off and saw Brandt Clarke step out of the penalty box to score the winner on a breakaway. Ullmark kicked out 30 of 33 shots in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Carolina.
Ullmark allowed a power-play goal late in the first period on a Martin Necas wrist shot from the top of the circle to open the scoring. Carolina followed that up in the second period with another power-play goal by Teuvo Teravainen to make it 2-0. Boston tied the game up in the third period with consecutive goals courtesy of Brad Marchand, but Ullmark eventually allowed a late goal by Jordan Martinook that proved to be the game-winner. The game was tight early - the Bruins were up 3-2 heading into the second, and the Habs knotted the game 3-3 at 6:16 of the second. From there, the boys from Boston took over and never looked back. It was a decent way for Ullmark to ease his way back in from injury. He and Jeremy Swayman will likely return to a timeshare in net now that he's healthy. The Bruins got off to a queasy start when Brayden Point finished off a Nikita Kucherov feed from behind the net that beat Ullmark just 21 seconds into the game. However, the Bruins netminder settled down, and his teammates got to work, tying the game at 4:42 of the same frame and never looked back. Ullmark has won three consecutive games to improve to 6-2-1 in nine outings since the start of December.
