Avalanche's Mackenzie Blackwood: Gets no help in Winnipeg
Blackwood stopped 26 of 28 shots in Saturday's 3-0 loss to the Jets, with Winnipeg's final goal getting scored into an empty net.
Winnipeg got a puck past him in each of the first two periods, with Blackwood having little chance at either, and the Avs were never able to solve Connor Hellebuyck in the other crease. It's Blackwood's first regulation loss since Dec. 16, and since making his debut with Colorado, the 28-year-old netminder has gone 8-2-1 in 11 outings with an outstanding 1.66 GAA and .939 save percentage.

Avalanche's Mackenzie Blackwood: Expected starter for Thursday
Blackwood is set to start on the road against Minnesota on Thursday, per Brennan Vogt of Mile High Hockey on Wednesday.
Trent Miner will play between the pipes in Wednesday's road tilt against Chicago, which is what's freeing Blackwood up to face the tougher 26-11-4 Wild. The 28-year-old Blackwood has been phenomenal since being acquired from San Jose by Colorado, posting a 7-1-1 record, 1.69 GAA and .938 save percentage across his past nine outings. Blackwood hasn't allowed three or more goals in a single game since Dec. 7, when he was still a member of the Sharks -- and even then, it was hardly his fault given that San Jose allowed a staggering 54 shots to head Blackwood's way in that 3-1 loss to Florida. Colorado typically doesn't ask nearly as much of the goaltender, and while the Wild are a fantastic team overall, their offense is merely average -- Minnesota is tied for 14th in goals per game with 3.05.

With Scott Wedgewood (lower body) on the shelf, Blackwood should continue to see a heavy workload for Colorado.

Blackwood will get the starting nod at home versus Florida on Monday, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports.
Blackwood is undefeated in regulation over his last six contests, posting a 5-0-1 record, 1.68 GAA and .934 save percentage. It took the 28-year-old netminder just eight games with the Avalanche to match his win total (six) from his 19 outings with the Sharks this year. Fortunately for Colorado, Blackwood seems to be thriving, as the club is currently without backup Scott Wedgewood (lower body) and may have to rely even more heavily on Blackwood.

Blackwood stopped 22 of 24 shots in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Canucks. The third goal was an empty-netter with 2:35 left in the third period.
The Avs couldn't find a way to stop Kiefer Sherwood, who beat Blackwood in each of the first and second periods -- the 29-year-old forward also accounted for the empty-net marker in the third frame -- to hand the netminder his second defeat over his last three outings. The 28-year-old goaltender has made five appearances this month, going 2-2-0 with a 2.40 GAA and a .935 save percentage. Despite the loss Monday, he's been performing well enough to remain a valuable fantasy option when he's protecting the Avs' crease.
