Laine (illness) won't play Tuesday against the Kings, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports. Laine has five goals, seven points, 36 shots on net and 13 blocked shots in 16 appearances this season. Mathieu Olivier, who was initially projected to be scratched, will be in the lineup Tuesday instead.... See More ... See Less

Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Lights lamp in loss
Laine scored his fourth goal of the season in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Canadiens. He opened the scoring early in the second period with a brilliant individual effort, stealing the puck in the Columbus zone and catching Montreal on a line change as he raced down the ice for a near-breakaway on Sam Montembeault. Moments of electricity like that have been few and far between for Laine to begin the season, in part because of an upper-body injury that cost him three weeks of action. However, in five games since he was made a healthy scratch by coach Pascal Vincent, he's responded with two goals and three points. Laine's upside as a goal-scorer will keep him in a prominent lineup spot as long as he keeps making an impact, and the 25-year-old could catch fire at any time.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Healthy scratch Sunday
Laine will be a healthy scratch Sunday against Philadelphia, per Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers. Laine logged just 12:21 of ice time in Columbus' 4-3 loss to Washington on Saturday. He has two goals, one assist, 22 shots on net and 13 blocked shots through nine appearances this season. The Blue Jackets will dress seven blueliners and 11 forwards in Sunday's contest, with Adam Boqvist back in the lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Lights lamp in return
Laine scored a goal on four shots and added two blocked shots in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Red Wings. Seeing his first action since Oct. 20 after recovering from an upper-body injury, Laine was immediately put right back on the top line and top power-play unit. He responded by snapping a shot top shelf over Ville Husso's glove just moments after a Blue Jackets power play had ended in the third period. It was the 200th goal of Laine's NHL career and his 60th in 161 games for Columbus. The 25-year-old winger appears safe to plug back into fantasy lineups.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Activated from injured reserve
The Blue Jackets activated Laine (upper body) from injured reserve Saturday. Laine has missed the last nine games after taking a hit from Calgary's Rasmus Andersson, which resulted in a four-game suspension for the Flames defenseman. Laine has a goal and an assist in four games. He will play on the top line with Johnny Gaudreau and Boone Jenner, as well as see time on the top power play.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Practicing in regular jersey
Laine (upper body) is back at practice in a contact jersey Friday, according to Brian Hedger of The Columbus Dispatch Laine has missed the last nine games after he was injured in a 3-1 win over Calgary on Oct. 20. Laine has a goal and an assist in four games this season. He had 22 goals and 52 points in 55 games with the Blue Jackets last season and had 26 goals and 56 points in the full 56-game season in 2021-22. He could return as early as Saturday in Detroit.... Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Approaching return?
Laine (upper body) skated Wednesday morning, and the Blue Jackets are hoping he'll be ready to return sooner rather than later, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports. Although it seems unlikely Laine will be ready to return Thursday versus Dallas, it sounds like the 25-year-old forward's absence should come to an end in the near future. Laine picked up a goal and an assist through the first four games of the campaign before missing the last eight contests due to an upper-body issue.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Lands on IR
Laine (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Monday, according to the NHL media site. Laine has one goal, one assist, nine shots on goal and six blocked shots through four games this season. He was injured late in Friday's contest against Calgary after taking a high hit from Rasmus Andersson, who received a four-game suspension for charging. Laine's move to IR will prevent him from playing in at least the next two games, starting with Tuesday's contest versus Anaheim.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Not traveling to Minnesota
Laine (upper body) did not accompany the Blue Jackets to Minnesota for Saturday's game, according to Aaron Portzline of The Athletic. Laine had to leave Friday's game versus Calgary after taking a high hit from Rasmus Andersson. Laine has a goal and an assist in four games this season. He will not play against the Wild.... Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Slow to leave the ice
Laine, who was scoreless in Friday's 3-1 win against the Blue Jackets, was the victim of a questionable hit to the head late in the game. In the dying seconds of a game that was already decided, Rasmus Andersson of the Flames left his feet and delivered a huge hit to Laine in open ice, making contact with Laine's head. The Blue Jackets forward was down for a bit before slowly skating off. For now, Laine is considered day-to-day, but it wouldn't be shocking to see him sit Saturday in Minnesota.... See More ... Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Pots first goal of season
Laine scored a goal on five shots with two blocked shots and a minus-2 rating in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Flyers. Skating as the center on the Blue Jackets' top line between Johnny Gaudreau and Cole Sillinger, Laine was consistently dangerous but wasn't able to get a puck past Carter Hart until there was less than a minute left in the third period and Columbus had its goalie pulled for an extra attacker. Laine won only four of 10 faceoffs on the night, which suggests his conversion to center is still very much a work in progress, but if he keeps flashing chemistry with Gaudreau, the Jackets have little to lose by giving the experiment a real chance to work out.... Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Two points in preseason finale
Laine scored a goal and an assist in Saturday's preseason win over the Capitals. The dynamic 25-year-old finishes the preseason with four goals and eight points in five games, but perhaps more importantly, Laine was still working at center Saturday and anchoring the Blue Jackets' top line between Johnny Gaudreau and Kirill Marchenko. Per Brian Hedger of The Columbus Dispatch, the unit dominated the ice when it was together at 5-on-5 and generated four scoring chances to the Caps' two. Laine's been a point-a-game player for Columbus the last two seasons when he's been able to stay healthy, and a regular assignment with Gaudreau might even allow him to take his production to another level.... Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Lights lamp twice Saturday
Laine scored two goals in Saturday's 4-3 preseason loss to the Sabres. Centering a line between Kirill Marchenko and Emil Bemstrom, Laine found the back of the net in the first and second periods. The Blue Jackets are taking a long look at the possibility of using Laine at center during the regular season, and performances like this would seem to make that more likely to happen. The 25-year-old hasn't played more than 56 games in a season since 2018-19 due to injuries, but in the last two years for Columbus, he's maintained an 82-game scoring pace of 35 goals and 80 points.... Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Seeing time at center in practice
Laine skated at center between Johnny Gaudreau and Kirill Marchenko during Wednesday's practice and hasn't been ruled out as an option up the middle during the season, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports. "He's shown a lot of interest in playing center," new head coach Pascal Vincent said. "Like I told him, he has to do the right things. His conditioning has to be way up there. Skating and practicing, pushing himself has to be there. So far, I'd like to say that he's been doing all of this, so we're going to see how it goes, and if we like it we will continue the project... If it works, great, we all benefit. He's a 6-foot-5 right shot. If it works, it changes the picture of our group up front. But if it doesn't work, that was a good try and we'll move forward." The Blue Jackets have more depth at center than at any time in recent memory with the additions of 2023 third overall pick Adam Fantilli and Dmitri Voronkov from the KHL, but if Laine can handle the assignment, he could end up anchoring the team's top line and taking some pressure off Fantilli in his rookie campaign. Having Laine at center would also allow Boone Jenner to move back to a wing, where he's a better fit at this stage of his career. Laine is still looking to put together a full healthy season in Columbus, but over the last two years he's racked up 48 goals and 108 points in 111 games.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Gets on the ice Thursday
Laine (triceps) took the ice Thursday for the first day of the Blue Jackets' training camp, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports. Laine lined up as the right wing alongside Adam Fantilli for the first day of practice. The 25-year-old Laine appears to be recovered from the injury that ended his season in late March. There's been talk he could see time at center in 2023-24, but that's something that will likely be experimented with during the preseason.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Skipping World Championship
Laine (triceps) won't play in the 2023 IIHF World Championship because he hasn't fully recovered yet. Laine won't get the chance to play for Finland in the tournament after sitting out Columbus' final 12 games of the season. He will look to be ready for training camp in the fall. The 25-year-old forward registered 22 goals, 52 points and 184 shots on net in 55 appearances during the 2022-23 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Suffers triceps injury
Laine suffered a triceps strain at practice Thursday and is expected to miss 2-4 weeks, as reports. Laine could be finished for the season as there are only three weeks left before the start of the playoffs. Laine has 22 goals and 52 points with 184 shots on goal in only 55 games this season. Laine has been having trouble staying healthy in his last four seasons, missing varying lengths of time due to injuries.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Logs two more helpers in win
Laine picked up two assists in Tuesday's 7-6 overtime win over the Capitals. Both of Laine's assists came in the third period, setting up Emil Bemstrom and later Boone Jenner. Laine has recorded six points (one goal, five assists) in his last three games and 14 (five goals, nine assists) in his previous 10 contests. The 24-year-old winger is up to 22 goals and 30 assists through 55 games this season on Columbus' top line.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Records two points in defeat
Laine scored a goal and recorded an assist in a 7-4 loss to Anaheim on Friday. Laine saw his six-game scoring streak end Thursday, but he bounced right back, giving him five goals and 10 points over his last eight outings. You'd have to go back to Feb. 10-11 to find the last time Laine was held off the scoresheet for two straight contests. The 24-year-old has provided 22 goals and 48 points in 53 appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine: Riding six-game point streak
Laine provided a pair of assists and added six shots on goal in Tuesday's 6-5 overtime win over the Sharks. Laine linked up with Johnny Gaudreau for the Blue Jackets' first and last goals of the contest. The 24-year-old winger is on a six-game point streak, providing four goals and four assists in that span. Laine's up to 21 tallies, 25 helpers, 168 shots on net, 15 power-play points and a minus-13 rating through 51 appearances.... See More ... See Less
