Puljujarvi was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday.
Puljujarvi's demotion comes as Evgeni Malkin (upper body) was activated off injured reserve in a corresponding move. After Puljujarvi passed through waivers in late December, he was always going to be the easiest player to move between levels when a transaction was needed. During this latest NHL stint, the 26-year-old Swede notched one assist, four shots and 13 hits in four games while averaging 11:28 of ice time.

Puljujarvi got on the scoresheet against his former team, securing his first point since a goal Nov. 19 versus the Lightning. The 26-year-old winger cleared waivers Dec. 31, so he is still vulnerable to be sent to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton until he plays 10 games or spends 30 days on the NHL roster. Puljujarvi signed a two-year, $1.6 million contract with Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Puljujarvi has notched four goals and nine points in 13 games with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season. In 75 NHL appearances between Edmonton and Carolina last campaign, he supplied five goals, 11 assists, 125 shots on net and 139 hits. Puljujarvi should compete for a middle-six spot in the lineup with Pittsburgh.

Penguins' Jesse Puljujarvi: Set to sign AHL PTO
Puljujarv (hip) is expected to sign an AHL professional tryout agreement with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this week, Taylor Haase of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Puljujarvi will be permitted to play in up to 25 AHL games while on a PTO with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Formally, this will end his current NHL tryout deal, but the fact that he's stuck around the Penguins' organization this long suggests there is some mutual interest in eventually getting the winger signed to a two-way NHL contract.

Puljujarvi hasn't played yet during the 2023-24 campaign after he underwent double hip surgery during the offseason. The 25-year-old forward produced five goals, 16 points, 125 shots on net and 139 hits in 75 games between Edmonton and Carolina last season.

Puljujarvi underwent double hip surgery and is out indefinitely. The Hurricanes won't make him a qualifying offer, so he'll become an unrestricted free agent Saturday, Chris Johnston of TSN reports.
Puljujarvi had five goals, 16 points and 139 hits in 75 outings with Edmonton and Carolina in 2022-23. The 25-year-old forward might be able to earn a bottom-six spot somewhere if he's healthy in time for the start of the 2023-24 campaign.
