  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Hit by Avalanche on Saturday

DeSmith made 30 saves Saturday in a 6-3 loss to Colorado. DeSmith has surrendered nine goals in his last two starts, both losses, but before that, he had allowed just six goals in his previous four games, all wins. Dallas has hit a bit of a skid lately, but the team will rebound soon enough, which will put DeSmith back into a strong fantasy role for spot starts in daily.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Expected to start Saturday

DeSmith is set to start on the road against Colorado on Saturday, per Mike Heika of the Stars' official site. DeSmith has a 6-5-0 record, 2.32 GAA and .913 save percentage in 13 outings in 2024-25. He stopped 24 of 27 shots en route to a 3-2 loss to Ottawa on Sunday in his last start. Colorado is tied for seventh in the league with 3.30 goals per game this campaign.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Surrenders three goals in loss

DeSmith allowed three goals on 28 shots in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Senators. Ottawa scored twice in a span of 39 seconds in the second period and had no trouble protecting the lead from that point on. This loss ended DeSmith's run of winning four straight decisions, as well as his five-game streak of allowing two or fewer goals. The 33-year-old netminder is down to 6-5-0 with a 2.32 GAA and a .914 save percentage over 13 outings this season. Jake Oettinger will likely be back between the pipes for Tuesday's road-trip finale in Toronto. The Stars have a back-to-back next weekend -- at Colorado on Saturday and at home versus the Red Wings on Sunday -- so DeSmith shouldn't have to wait long for his next start.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Defending crease Sunday

DeSmith will guard the road net versus Ottawa on Sunday, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports. DeSmith will get the second half of Dallas' back-to-back after Jake Oettinger played in Saturday's 2-1 shootout win over Montreal. The 33-year-old DeSmith has won his last four starts, stopping 108 of 114 shots. He has a 6-4-0 record with one shutout, a 2.24 GAA and a .916 save percentage across 12 appearances this season. Ottawa sits 22nd in the league with 2.90 goals per game in 2024-25 and earned a 5-0 win over Pittsburgh on Saturday.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Nabs fourth straight win

DeSmith stopped 27 shots in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Flyers. Morgan Frost spoiled his shutout bid early in the third period, but DeSmith still delivered another sharp performance. While he isn't seeing much work behind Jake Oettinger, he's been ready when called upon -- DeSmith has won four straight starts dating back to Dec. 2, posting a 1.40 GAA and .950 save percentage in five appearances during that span.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Tending twine Thursday

DeSmith will guard the cage on the road against the Flyers on Thursday, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports. DeSmith is riding a personal three-game winning streak, though he has made just four appearances in net over the Stars' last 16 contests. Still, the netminder is sporting a 1.52 GAA and .946 save percentage over that stretch. While DeSmith won't be taking the starting job away from Jake Oettinger, it's possible that he will earn himself a few more opportunities given his recent success, which will serve to keep Oettinger fresh for a deep postseason run.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: First goalie off

DeSmith was the first goalie off Tuesday, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports, signaling that he'll draw the start at home against the Sabres. Although Jake Oettinger worked in the starter's crease during Tuesday's morning skate, DeSmith appears to be in line to tend the twine against Buffalo. DeSmith has made just three appearances in December, going 2-0-0 with a 1.31 GAA and a .957 save percentage.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Allows two goals in win

DeSmith saved 24 of 26 shots in Monday's 3-2 win over Utah. DeSmith has allowed just three goals on 69 shots over three appearances in December. The 33-year-old's workload remains light as backup to an elite netminder in Jake Oettinger, but DeSmith has put a shaky November behind him. For the year, he's 4-4-0 with a 2.41 GAA and a .910 save percentage over 10 appearances (eight starts). The Stars don't have any back-to-backs over the next week, so DeSmith may have to wait a while for his next outing.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Tending twine versus Utah

DeSmith will be between the road pipes for Monday's game against Utah, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports. The Stars are playing their final game before the Christmas break Monday, and DeSmith will draw his first start since Dec. 2, which also came against Utah. He turned aside 36 of 37 shots (.973 save percentage) en route to the win in that start, and he'll attempt to remain effective against Utah on Monday.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Needed in relief Wednesday

DeSmith stopped all six shots he faced after replacing Jake Oettinger to begin the third period of Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Maple Leafs. The veteran backup hasn't gotten a start since Dec. 2, but DeSmith was sharp on the handful of chances he saw Wednesday after he entered the game with the Stars down 4-2. On the season, he's 3-4-0 in nine outings with a 2.47 GAA and .909 save percentage, and while he won't challenge Oettinger for the top job in the crease, he could see more frequent action in the short term if Stars head coach Peter DeBoer decides his No. 1 needs more rest.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Available for Monday

DeSmith (illness) is expected to be available for Monday's home game against Washington, according to Owen Newkirk of DLLS Sports. Magnus Hellberg was the backup goalie behind Jake Oettinger in Saturday's 2-1 overtime win over St. Louis due to DeSmith's absence. Hellberg and Lian Bichsel were assigned to AHL Texas on Sunday, but only Bichsel returned to the NHL level ahead of Monday's matchup versus the Capitals. As a result, DeSmith should be available to return to the lineup. Dallas hasn't named a starting goaltender yet for the game.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Misses practice Friday

DeSmith didn't participate in Friday's practice session due to the flu, Brian Rea of FanDuel Sports Network Southwest reports. The 33-year-old has seen minimal playing time behind Jake Oettinger to begin the regular season, but it's not yet clear whether DeSmith will be able to dress for Saturday's home game against the Blues. It doesn't seem as though DeSmith will face a long-term absence, but if he's unavailable Saturday, the Stars will likely need to call up another netminder, presumably to serve in a backup capacity.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Tending twine against Utah

DeSmith will be between the road pipes against Utah on Monday, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports. DeSmith has had limited playing time in recent weeks, as Monday's start will be just his third over the Stars' last 11 games. Across his seven appearances this season, he's recorded a 2-4-0 record, 2.81 GAA and .891 save percentage.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Woeful showing Wednesday

DeSmith stopped 20 of 26 shots in Wednesday's 6-2 loss to the Blackhawks. DeSmith made his fourth appearance since the beginning of November but was subpar once again, giving up six goals against one of the worst offenses in the entire league. DeSmith has dropped his last two starts, against the Ducks and Blackhawks, while stopping just 43 of 53 shots in the process. He's not expected to make another start until Jake Oettinger needs a day off.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Starting against Chicago

DeSmith will be the starting goaltender for Wednesday's road game against Chicago, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports. DeSmith has appeared in just three games since the start of November. He'll be between the pipes on the road Wednesday against the Blackhawks, who have averaged just 2.33 goals per game to begin the season, which is the second-worst mark in the league. Over six appearances this year, DeSmith has gone 2-3-0 with a 2.22 GAA and .914 save percentage.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Gives up four goals Monday

DeSmith stopped 23 of 27 shots in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Ducks. DeSmith made his first start since Nov. 2 and had a disappointing performance, allowing a season-high mark in goals and posting his worst save percentage of any game in 2024-25. In six outings this season, DeSmith has gone 2-3-0 with a 2.22 GAA and a .914 save percentage, but he's not expected to see many opportunities as the backup of Jake Oettinger.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Gets starting nod Monday

DeSmith will be between the pipes at home versus Anaheim on Monday, Brian Rea of FanDuel Sports Network Southwest reports. DeSmith will get the surprise start after No. 1 Jake Oettinger was working in the starter's crease at Monday's game-day skate. It's the first start for the 33-year-old DeSmith since Nov. 2 against the Panthers, with his only other appearance during November having come in relief. On the year, DeSmith is 2-2-1 while sporting a career-best 1.79 GAA, but he shouldn't be expected to see a ton of opportunities this year behind the workhorse Oettinger.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Perfect in relief

DeSmith stopped all 10 shots he faced in relief of Jake Oettinger in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Jets. The Jets did all their damage in the first half of the game, and they didn't test DeSmith much over the last 30-plus minutes after the Stars made the change in net. This was DeSmith's fifth outing of the year, and he's posted a 1.79 GAA and a .929 save percentage. He's still not expected to play much, but he could push for a larger role if Oettinger continues to struggle against tough opponents. DeSmith has often started about once a week so far in an effort to keep Oettinger fresh in the starting role.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Starting in Finland

DeSmith will defend the visiting crease versus Florida in Finland on Saturday, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports. DeSmith has been a terrific backup thus far for the Stars, as he is 2-1-0 with five goals allowed on 78 shots in three appearances. The 33-year-old netminder will face the Panthers, who toppled the Stars 6-4 on Friday.

  • Stars' Casey DeSmith: Big win in Beantown

DeSmith made 25 saves in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Bruins. The veteran netminder was beaten twice from in close after Dallas defenders coughed up the puck behind their own net, but DeSmith got plenty of offensive support to make up for it. He's no threat to Jake Oettinger in the No. 1 role, but DeSmith has been a strong backup to begin the season, going 2-1-0 with a 1.69 GAA and .936 save percentage in three starts.
