Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Picks up helper in win
Rotowire
Lafreniere notched an assist, four shots on goal and two PIM in Thursday's 5-3 win over Utah.
Lafreniere ended a brief three-game slump when he set up Artemi Panarin's first goal of the contest. The 23-year-old Lafreniere continues to see top-line minutes, and with the Rangers playing better in January, there's less chance he gets shuffled down the lineup. The winger has four points over eight games this month, matching his total from 13 contests in December. He's at 25 points, 109 shots on net, 59 hits, 22 PIM and a minus-12 rating across 44 appearances this season.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Lights lamp twice in OT loss
Rotowire
Lafreniere scored two goals in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Stars.
Both goals came in the first period as the Rangers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but their leaky defense once again let them down. Lafreniere snapped a 13-game goal drought with the performance, and on the season, the first overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft has churned out 11 goals and 24 points in 40 appearances.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Ends dry spell with assist
Rotowire
Lafreniere logged an assist and went plus-2 in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Blackhawks.
The helper ended an eight-game point drought for Lafreniere, who has been limited to just two assists over his last 13 contests. The 23-year-old winger is still seeing top-line usage -- it's not like any other Ranger forward has stepped up to take his place recently. Lafreniere has a decent 22 points with 91 shots on net, 53 hits, 18 PIM and a minus-13 rating over 39 outings this season. It's enough to keep him rostered in fantasy, but he's by no means a must-start player in standard formats.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Stuck in slump
Rotowire
Monday's 5-0 loss to New Jersey was the seventh time in his past eight appearances that Lafreniere had been held off the scoresheet.
Lafreniere got off to a strong start to the campaign, contributing eight goals and 16 points across his first 19 outings, but he's managed just a goal and five points over his past 15 appearances. He's far from the only struggling member of the Rangers -- New York is 4-13-0 overs its past 17 games -- but Lafreniere still has something to prove. The 23-year-old finished with under 40 points in each of his first three campaigns, but he gave the world a glimpse of why he was taken with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft when he provided 28 goals and 57 points across 82 regular-season games in 2023-24. That jump in production led to him inking a seven-year, $52.15 million contract that doesn't begin until 2025-26. If he fails to build off his success from last season, then that deal will end up looking like an overpayment.

Rotowire
Lafreniere registered an assist, two shots on goal and two hits in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Blues.
Lafreniere snapped a three-game point drought with the helper on a Will Cuylle goal in the third period. They flanked Filip Chytil on the Rangers' listed top line, and Lafreniere led all Rangers forwards with 19:13 of ice time amid the team's significant roster shuffle sans Artemi Panarin (upper body). Lafreniere hasn't fully avoided the team's struggles, but he has looked pretty good this year with 21 points, 66 shots on net and 42 hits over 30 contests, though he also has a minus-13 rating. The winger is on pace for roughly the same point total he had last year (57 in 82 regular-season games).

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Two helpers in Friday's win
Rotowire
Lafreniere recorded two assists in Friday's 4-2 win over the Penguins.
Lafreniere extended his goal drought to seven games, but he has four assists in that span, so at least he's finding a way to remain relevant in fantasy amid a prolonged slump. The 23-year-old has eight goals and 19 points through 25 points in 2024-25, which puts him on pace to surpass the career high he established during the 2023-24 regular season of 57 points, so even though Lafreniere has struggled to find the back of the net recently, this is still shaping up to be a strong campaign for him overall.

The 23-year-old is at seven goals, 14 points, 30 shots, 19 hits and a minus-4 rating through 16 outings overall.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Mixed results in loss
Rotowire
Lafreniere scored a power-play goal on two shots and went minus-4 in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Jets.
Mika Zibanejad's struggles with puck possession showed up in his linemates' numbers, as the Jets had no trouble cashing in on turnovers. Lafreniere salvaged his game with a goal, his fourth point over five contests in November. The winger is up to six goals, six assists, 24 shots on net, 16 hits and a minus-6 rating over 14 appearances this season. He's a virtual lock for top-six minutes, though the Rangers' offense hasn't exactly been firing on all cylinders over the last three weeks.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Pair of points in win
Rotowire
Lafreniere scored a power-play goal and added an assist in Friday's 2-1 win over the Senators.
Lafreniere earned his second multi-point effort of the season, which included the game-winning goal at 2:56 of the third period. The winger has displayed consistency in a second-line role, getting on the scoresheet in eight of 10 contests so far without going more than two games without a goal. The 23-year-old has five tallies, five assists, 20 shots on net, nine hits and a minus-1 rating, and his goal Friday was his first power-play point of the campaign.
Lafreniere signed a seven-year, $52.15 million contract extension with the Rangers on Friday, Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today reports.
Lafreniere's $7.45 million annual cap hit, which will begin with the 2025-26 campaign, has the potential to look like a steal for the Rangers in the years to come. Although Lafreniere was taken with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, he had a quiet start to his NHL career, failing to reach the 40-point milestone in any of his first three campaigns. However, Lafreniere took a major step forward in the 2023-24 regular season with 28 goals and 57 points in 82 outings and excelled further in the 2024 playoffs, providing eight goals and 14 points across 16 appearances. Lafreniere has followed up that breakout campaign with a strong start to 2024-25, collecting four goals and seven points through seven outings. Still just 23 years old, Lafreniere seems to be starting to live up to the high standard of being a No. 1 overall selection.

Lafreniere notched a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Penguins.
The 22-year-old scored the Rangers second goal late in the first period before helping to set up Vincent Trocheck for the team's final tally in the third. Lafreniere is coming off a breakout campaign that saw him collect 28 goals and 57 points in 82 games, but with Trocheck and Artemi Panarin as his usual linemates, the first overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft likely hasn't found his ceiling yet.

Lafreniere scored a goal in the final minute of Thursday's 3-2 loss versus Florida in Game 5.
