  • Canucks' Marcus Pettersson: Nabs assist in win

Pettersson provided an assist and blocked five shots in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Jets. Pettersson has three helpers over his last five contests. He's started to settle in nicely on the Canucks' second pairing, but he'll always be more productive in the defensive categories than the scoring ones. The 28-year-old blueliner is up to 22 points, 58 shots on net, 73 hits, 120 blocks and a minus-2 rating over 64 outings between the Canucks and the Penguins this season.

  • Canucks' Marcus Pettersson: Helpers in consecutive contests

Pettersson notched an assist, two hits and four blocked shots in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout win over the Flames. Pettersson played alongside Quinn Hughes at even strength in this contest. The 28-year-old Pettersson has a helper in back-to-back games and three assists over six outings in March. For the season, the shutdown defenseman is at 21 points, 57 shots on net, 69 hits, 108 blocked shots and a minus-3 rating over 61 appearances between the Canucks and the Penguins.

  • Canucks' Marcus Pettersson: Notches assist Tuesday

Pettersson provided an assist, two shots on goal, three hits, three blocked shots, two PIM and a minus-2 rating in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Canadiens. This was Pettersson's second helper over five games in March after he was held off the scoresheet in his first month with the Canucks. The 28-year-old defenseman continues to see heavy minutes in a top-four role, and that's mostly as a shutdown blueliner, which limits his scoring potential. He's at 20 points -- a level he's reached five times in his eight-year career -- while adding 56 shots on net, 67 hits, 104 blocked shots, 39 PIM and a minus-4 rating over 60 appearances between Vancouver and Pittsburgh this season.

  • Canucks' Marcus Pettersson: Contributes helper in loss

Pettersson provided an assist and blocked two shots in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Kraken. Pettersson had not earned a point in his first eight games with the Canucks. The 28-year-old blueliner changed that by helping out on a goal by fellow trade acquisition Filip Chytil in the first period. Pettersson's offered decent offense from the blue line in past seasons, but his primary role is to shut down the opponent's top forwards. He's at 19 points, 51 shots on net, 97 blocked shots, 63 hits and a minus-1 rating through 56 appearances between the Canucks and the Penguins this season.

  • Canucks' Marcus Pettersson: Solid defensive game

Pettersson was a plus-1 and blocked two shots in Wednesday's 3-2 overtime victory against the Kings. The return of Quinn Hughes (oblique) pushed Pettersson down the depth chart to the second pair with Tyler Myers for Wednesday's contest. It's the first time that the full defensive corps has been healthy for the Canucks since the former Penguin arrived via trade Feb. 1. Pettersson has been solid defensively, but maybe the team achieving full health is what is needed for the 28-year-old to unlock the offensive part of his game that has been missing since joining Vancouver. He remains pointless in seven games with his new team.

  • Canucks' Marcus Pettersson: Sticking around in Vancouver

Pettersson signed a six-year, $33 million contract extension with the Canucks on Wednesday. Pettersson was acquired via trade with the Penguins last Friday, and it took the Canucks little time to get him a new deal. This new contract will take him through his age-34 campaign. Pettersson hasn't recorded a point for his new team, but he's at 18 points, 46 shots on net, 60 hits, 86 blocked shots and a minus-2 rating over 49 appearances this season. He should be a top-four fixture in Vancouver for years to come.

  • Canucks' Marcus Pettersson: Heading to Vancouver in trade

Pettersson and Drew O'Connor were traded to the Canucks from the Penguins on Friday in exchange for Danton Heinen, Vincent Desharnais, Melvin Fernstrom and a conditional first-round pick. There are no elite players in this deal, but Pettersson is a quality defensive defenseman who will bolster a weak spot for the Canucks. The 28-year-old should take on a second-pairing role if he stays on his natural side and will have the opportunity to join a playoff race after the Penguins started to lag behind in the Eastern Conference. He'll be a strong source of blocked shots, having racked up 83 blocks along with 18 points and 57 hits over 47 appearances.

  • Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Tallies in Wednesday's win

Pettersson scored a goal, added two hits and blocked three shots in Wednesday's 3-2 overtime win over Utah. Pettersson's tally briefly tied the game at 1-1 in the second period. The 28-year-old blueliner has had modest success in January with a goal and four assists over 14 contests while seeing time in the top four. He's at three goals, 18 points, 43 shots on net, 83 blocked shots, 57 hits and a minus-2 rating over 47 outings this season. Pettersson produces enough offense to be a depth option for fantasy.

  • Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Puts up assist

Pettersson notched an assist, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Monday's 5-1 win over the Kings. Pettersson has earned four helpers over his last seven games. The 28-year-old typically doesn't generate a lot of offense, instead offering decent all-around production as a shutdown blueliner. For the season, he's at 17 points, 40 shots on net, 50 hits, 76 blocked shots, 25 PIM and a minus-1 rating across 43 appearances.

  • Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Bags apple in loss

Pettersson notched an assist, four hits and three blocked shots in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Lightning. Pettersson has three helpers and a plus-3 rating over his last three contests. The 28-year-old doesn't look to have lost a step since returning from a six-game absence due to a lower-body injury. The blueliner continues to provide modest offense and strong physicality in a top-four role. He has 16 points, 37 shots on net, 47 hits, 70 blocked shots, 23 PIM and a minus-1 rating over 39 appearances.

  • Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Records pair of helpers

Pettersson notched two assists, five blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Oilers. The helpers were Pettersson's first points in five games since he returned from a lower-body injury that cost him six contests. The 28-year-old defenseman has stepped right back into a top-four role, adding a plus-3 rating, five shots on net and eight blocked shots since his return. Overall, he has 15 points, 37 shots, 64 blocks, 39 hits and a minus-1 rating over 37 appearances. His scoring isn't great, but he offers decent category coverage for fantasy.

  • Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Activated off injured reserve

Pettersson (lower body) was activated off injured reserve by the Penguins on Tuesday, per the NHL media site. Pettersson hasn't suited up since Dec. 14 due to a lower-body injury, but he should be back in action for Tuesday's road game against Detroit. Prior to his six-game absence, Pettersson had racked up two goals, 13 points, 56 blocked shots, 36 hits and 21 PIM while averaging 21:47 of ice time over 32 appearances this season.

  • Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Ruled out Saturday

Pettersson (lower body) will not play versus the Islanders on Saturday, according to Penguins play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff. The good news is that Pettersson was allowed contact at practice for the first time since he was injured in Ottawa on Dec. 14. Pettersson has two goals, 11 assists, 36 hits and 56 blocked shots across 32 games this season. He could be back as early as Sunday in a return match with the Islanders.

  • Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Placed on IR

Pettersson (lower body) was designated for injured reserve Tuesday. Considering Pettersson was deemed week-to-week by head coach Mike Sullivan on Monday, his placement on IR shouldn't come as a surprise. At this point, the 28-year-old defenseman shouldn't be expected back before the Christmas break, though it could certainly be longer. Owen Pickering should see an uptick in ice time with Pettersson out of the lineup while Nate Clurman was brought up from the minors to provide defensive depth.

  • Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Considered week-to-week

Pettersson (lower body) was labeled week-to-week by head coach Mike Sullivan on Monday, Wes Crosby of NHL.com reports. Pettersson has been one of the Penguins' most reliable shutdown defensemen this season, so his absence could be a significant blow to a team that has been performing better of late. Offensively, the 28-year-old Pettersson is somewhat limited, though he has delivered two goals and 11 helpers through 32 games this year. Youngster Owen Pickering figures to see an increase in ice time while Pettersson is on the shelf.

  • Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Nabs helper Saturday

Pettersson posted an assist, two hits and two blocked shots in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Maple Leafs. Pettersson has a goal and two assists over three games to begin December. He had all of four helpers in November, though he's spaced out his points this season to avoid too many lengthy droughts. The 28-year-old blueliner is at two goals, 11 assists, 31 shots on net, 34 hits, 55 blocked shots, 21 PIM and a minus-6 rating over 29 outings in a top-four role.

  • Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Pots goal in Tuesday's win

Pettersson scored a goal, added three hits and blocked three shots in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime win over the Panthers. Pettersson was somewhat steady with four helpers over 14 contests in November, but he hadn't scored since Oct. 10 versus the Red Wings. The 28-year-old defenseman is not an elite source of offense on the blue line, but he brings a steady physical game. For the season, he's at 11 points, 30 shots on net, 32 hits, 52 blocked shots, 19 PIM and a minus-7 rating over 27 contests. He's averaging 22:29 of ice time, just 11 seconds less per game than last year, so he remains a key part of the Penguins' defense.

  • Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Plucks apple in overtime loss

Pettersson notched an assist and three blocked shots in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss to Lightning. Pettersson has three helpers over his last six contests. The 28-year-old blueliner is often capable of putting up offense that gets him right on the fringe of fantasy interest, with more value in formats that reward his non-scoring contributions. This season, he's racked up nine points, 21 shots on net, 19 PIM, 21 hits, 38 blocked shots and a minus-5 rating over 21 outings. Pettersson should continue to be a fixture in the Penguins' top four.

  • Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Puts up helper

Pettersson logged an assist in Friday's 4-2 win over the Capitals. Pettersson snapped a four-game dry spell on offense, his longest drought of the campaign so far, when he set up Noel Acciari's empty-net tally. The 28-year-old Pettersson is up to seven points, 13 shots on net, 25 blocked shots, 14 hits, 15 PIM and a minus-5 rating over 16 contests. He's no stranger to putting up big numbers in non-scoring areas, but his pace on offense puts him on the fringe of fantasy rosters in standard formats.

  • Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Posts assist Saturday

Pettersson logged an assist in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Canucks. Pettersson has a helper in two of the last three games. The 28-year-old defenseman is up to five points, 10 shots on net, nine hits, 14 blocked shots and 15 PIM through 10 contests, though he also has a minus-4 rating, which is a product of the Penguins' defensive struggles. Pettersson is likely to stay in a top-four role all year, offering physicality and a bit of supporting offense at even strength.
