Senators' Dennis Gilbert: Heading to Ottawa
Gilbert, Dylan Cozens and a 2026 second-round pick were traded to the Senators from the Sabres on Friday in exchange for Josh Norris and Jacob Bernard-Docker.
Gilbert made 25 appearances for the Sabres this year and logged five assists, 52 hits, 29 blocked shots and 50 PIM while averaging 10:04 of ice time. The 28-year-old has picked up four points over eight appearances since the start of February, and he should have an opportunity to earn time in Buffalo's lineup late in the year.

Sabres' Dennis Gilbert: Maintains momentum after break
Gilbert recorded an assist, three hits, three blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 8-2 win over the Rangers.
Gilbert has three helpers over four games in February. If nothing else, he's helping himself stay in the lineup for his hometown team, leaving Jacob Bryson and Connor Clifton in the press box. Gilbert's recent success might make rostering him more palatable in deep fantasy formats, but his primary source of production will always come from physical play. He has just four assists to go with 50 PIM, 48 hits and 22 blocked shots over 21 appearances.

Sabres' Dennis Gilbert: Assists in consecutive games
Gilbert posted an assist, five PIM and two blocked shots in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets.
Gilbert has played in both of the Sabres' games to begin February, earning a helper in each. The 28-year-old has featured because the Sabres are deploying seven defensemen, and his playing time has come at the expense of winger Sam Lafferty. Gilbert is now at three assists, 48 PIM, 44 hits, 17 blocked shots and a minus-4 rating over 19 appearances.

Sabres' Dennis Gilbert: Rare helper in win
Gilbert notched an assist, two hits and two blocked shots in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Devils.
Gilbert made the most of his 6:36 of ice time while dressing as a seventh defenseman Sunday. The 28-year-old's playing time has been sparse lately -- this was his sixth appearance in 14 games since the start of January. Gilbert's offense is even less noticeable -- he has two helpers, four shots on net, 43 hits, 15 blocked shots, 43 PIM and a minus-5 rating through 18 appearances. He does not need to be tracked in fantasy.

Sabres' Dennis Gilbert: Plays in seven-defensemen lineup
Gilbert racked up two hits and nine PIM in Thursday's 4-0 win over the Senators.
This was Gilbert's second appearance in three games, though he was scratched for the prior six contests. The Sabres rolled with seven defensemen Thursday, but it's unclear if they'll do that more frequently in the second half. Mattias Samuelsson (illness) was also out, so it's possible Gilbert goes back to the press box once his fellow defenseman is healthy again. Gilbert has one assist, two shots on net, 36 hits, 36 PIM and 11 blocked shots through 14 outings in 2024-25.

Sabres' Dennis Gilbert: Rare point in loss
Gilbert notched an assist and seven hits in Saturday's 5-2 loss to Utah.
Gilbert was in the lineup for the second game in a row, covering for the absence of Rasmus Dahlin (back). The 28-year-old Gilbert remains limited to third-pairing usage when he plays. His helper Saturday was his first point in nearly a year -- his last contribution was a goal and an assist on New Year's Eve of 2023. He's added 22 hits, 25 PIM and eight blocked shots over eight outings this season, and he'll likely return to being a healthy scratch once Dahlin returns.

Sabres' Dennis Gilbert: Awaiting opportunities
Gilbert has played in just one of the Sabres' first 11 games.
Gilbert, a Buffalo native, played at home versus the Panthers on Oct. 12, logging three hits and a blocked shot in 4:49 of ice time. While not much has gone well for the Sabres at 4-6-1, the team has a firmly set top-four defense, and that group has enjoyed good health early on. Gilbert could get the occasional look over Mattias Samuelsson or Connor Clifton, but it's unlikely he'll see steady playing time this season.

Sabres' Dennis Gilbert: Agrees to one-year contract
Gilbert signed a one-year, $825,000 contract with the Sabres on Monday.
Gilbert had a goal, seven points, 59 hits and 49 blocked shots in 34 appearances with the Flames in 2023-24. The 27-year-old has a real shot of making the Sabres' roster out of training camp, but even if Gilbert makes the team, he probably won't play much for Buffalo.

Flames' Dennis Gilbert: Ends season out of lineup
Gilbert was scratched for 20 of the Flames' final 23 games this season.
Gilbert had a career year with seven points in 34 contests, but his playing time was sparse after the All-Star break. The physical defenseman is a pending unrestricted free agent and will likely have to settle for a two-way contract in 2024-25 after playing on a one-way deal the last two seasons.

Flames' Dennis Gilbert: No playing time since deadline
Gilbert hasn't played in the Flames' last 10 games.
While the Flames dealt away Chris Tanev and Noah Hanifin, they also brought in three other defensemen around the trade deadline. Gilbert has been the odd man out with the team carrying eight blueliners, and that may not change unless injuries arise. He has seven points and 58 hits over 33 contests this season.

Flames' Dennis Gilbert: Stuck in press box
Gilbert has played just three times in the Flames' last 13 games.
Gilbert was a regular on the third pairing before suffering a concussion in January. He played three of four games after getting cleared to return, but he's been a scratch for all of February with waiver claim Brayden Pachal and Oliver Kylington (personal) comprising the third pairing. Gilbert has seven points, 53 hits, 47 blocked shots and a minus-5 rating through 31 appearances. If the Flames trade Chris Tanev and Noah Hanifin, there may be room for Gilbert and fellow scratch Jordan Oesterle in the lineup down the stretch.

Flames' Dennis Gilbert: Placed on injured reserve
Gilbert (concussion) was put on injured reserve Wednesday, per Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan.
If the move is retroactive to Jan. 4, which is when Gilbert last played, then he can be activated whenever he's healthy. However, it seems unlikely Calgary would put Gilbert on IR unless he was expected to miss at least the next game, which will take place Thursday against Toronto. The 27-year-old defenseman has a goal, seven points, 44 hits and 43 blocks in 28 outings in 2023-24. Gilbert will likely serve on the third pairing once he's recovered.
