Sturm, who was on the non-roster injured reserve list for personal reasons, is back with the Sharks and expected to draw into the lineup Friday versus Montreal, per Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now. Sturm missed the Sharks' previous two games. He has two assists, a minus-12 rating, eight hits and 14 blocks in 17 contests this season. With Sturm available Friday, Nikolai Knyzhov might be a healthy scratch.... See More ... See Less

Sharks' Nico Sturm: Stepping away from team
Sturm will miss the next two games as he takes a personal leave of absence, the Sharks announced Friday. Sturm will be designated for non-roster status during his leave, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Sturm will not be an option for the team's two-game road trip in which the Sharks will face Vancouver and Seattle on Monday and Wednesday, respectively. In his stead, Kevin Labanc should return to the lineup while Ryan Carpenter and Luke Kunin figure to be in contention for a third-line role.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Logs assist
Sturm recorded an assist, two shots on goal and two PIM in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Blues. Sturm has two helpers over his last five games, accounting for all of his offense this season. The 28-year-old forward has added 14 blocked shots, eight hits, 16 shots on net, eight PIM and a minus-12 rating. He's played mainly in a middle-six role, though that comes with little power-play time, so his offense isn't likely to grow much.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Offers helper in win
Sturm notched an assist and two PIM in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Oilers. Sturm earned his first point of the campaign, setting up a Filip Zadina tally in the third period. A defensive forward, Sturm has had it tough in the Sharks' low-scoring and shaky lineup. He's picked up 11 shots on net, 11 blocked shots, six hits, six PIM and a minus-11 rating through 13 contests. He had a career high of just 26 points in 2022-23, so most fantasy managers won't need to keep track of Sturm's production this season.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Shakes off tough injury
Sturm was hit in the face with a shot in Friday's 3-0 loss against the Hurricanes, but he was able to return. Sturm was hit near the ear, and he was down for several moments midway through the second period after receiving friendly fire off the stick of Mario Ferraro. Sturm was tended to on ice by the training staff before immediately going to the locker room. He was able to return and finish the game, but he ended up scoreless with two shots in 15:21 of ice time while winning an amazing 17 of 20 faceoff attempts. The 28-year-old German has yet to record a point through seven games this year, so there's no reason for fantasy managers to keep tabs on him.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Picks up two helpers
Sturm recorded two assists in a 7-2 victory over Arizona on Saturday. Sturm had his first multi-point game since Feb. 25. Sturm's not a major offensive force, but he has set new career highs with 14 goals and 26 points in 68 appearances in 2022-23. It helps that he entered Saturday's contest averaging 14:45 of ice time, which is up from 11:54 in 2021-22.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Lends helper in win
Sturm notched an assist and two hits in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Jets. Sturm set up a Kevin Labanc goal early in the third period. Over his last five games, Sturm has a goal, two assists, 11 shots on net and seven hits. The 27-year-old continues to center the Sharks' third line, and he's up to a career-high 24 points with 112 shots on net, 91 hits and a minus-11 rating through 66 outings this season.... See More ... Sharks' Nico Sturm: Manages assist Saturday
Sturm logged an assist and four shots on goal in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Islanders. The Sharks didn't have many bright spots, but Sturm dominated at the faceoff dot, winning 16 of 22 draws. The 27-year-old also ended a six-game point drought when he assisted on a Kevin Labanc goal shortly after the Sharks killed a penalty. Sturm is up to a career-high 22 points with 105 shots on net, 84 hits, 21 PIM and a minus-10 rating through 62 contests this season.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Sets career high in goals
Sturm scored a shorthanded goal on three shots in Thursday's 6-2 loss to the Predators. Sturm's second-period tally got the Sharks on the board. It was also his 12th goal of the season, a new career high for the 27-year-old center. He snapped an eight-game point drought, and he's now at 18 points, 87 shots on net, 72 hits, 34 blocked shots, 21 PIM and a minus-4 rating through 51 appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Gets back in game
Sturm (upper body) returned to Thursday's game versus the Golden Knights, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports. It's rare for players to be deemed questionable to return to a game and end up making it back, but Sturm did just that. Assuming he doesn't feel the aftereffects of a Nicolas Hague shot in the coming days, Sturm can be considered healthy. He should continue to play in a bottom-six role.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Leaves Thursday's contest
Sturm is questionable to return to Thursday's game versus the Golden Knights after sustaining an upper-body injury in the first period, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports. Sturm took a Nicolas Hague shot up high and left the ice after the Sharks got a clearance. If Sturm can't return to Thursday's game, his next chance to play is Saturday at home versus the Sabres.... Sharks' Nico Sturm: Hurt in third period
Sturm (undisclosed) was injured in the third period of Saturday's game versus the Penguins, and head coach David Quinn did not have an update on the forward's status after the game, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Sturm was crushed on a big hit from Jason Zucker, and the Sharks' forward immediately went to the locker room. While injuries are never good, Sturm will have some extra time to heal up if it's not a significant one -- the Sharks don't play again until Feb. 7 versus the Lightning.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Two-point night in loss
Sturm had a goal and an assist in Saturday's 5-3 loss to Columbus. Sturm has a modest two-game, three-point (one goal, two assists) streak on the go, but his fantasy contributions are limited. He had just two points (one goal, one assist) in his previous 11 games.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Registers helper in win
Sturm posted an assist and three shots on goal in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Stars. Sturm helped out on Erik Karlsson's go-ahead goal in the third period, which turned out to be the game-winner. With three points over his last nine contests, Sturm isn't making many waves on offense. The 27-year-old forward has 14 points, 67 shots, 52 hits, 27 blocked shots and a minus-2 rating through 38 appearances, mostly while filling a third-line role.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Reaches 10-goal mark
Sturm scored a goal on three shots in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Coyotes. Sturm had been limited to one assist over six games since the holiday break before tallying the game-tying goal Tuesday. The 27-year-old is up to the 10-goal mark for the second time in his five-year career. He's been a solid middle-six option for the Sharks, racking up 13 points, 60 shots on net, 48 hits, 13 PIM and a minus-4 rating through 34 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Goal and fight Tuesday
Sturm scored a goal and added a fighting major in Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Flames. Both moments came in relatively quick succession. He scored with 5:02 left in the first period and then dropped the mitts with Brett Ritchie just 15 seconds later. Sturm has three goals in his last six games, making the most of his third-line role in the process. The 27-year-old has racked up nine tallies, two assists, 41 shots on net, 40 hits, 11 PIM and a minus-2 rating through 26 contests overall.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Goals in back-to-back outings
Sturm scored a goal in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Coyotes. Sturm's second-period tally held up as the game-winner. It was his second goal in as many contests and his eighth marker of the year. The 27-year-old German has added a pair of assists, 37 shots on net, 33 hits and a minus-1 rating through 23 contests. He'll chip in some supporting offense and a little physicality from his usual third-line role, but it's unlikely he's considered to move into the top six.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Nico Sturm: Will return Wednesday
Sturm (upper body) will rejoin the Sharks for Wednesday's game against Vancouver, per Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now. Sturm last played on Nov. 19 because of the injury.
