  • Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Struggles in loss

Luukkonen allowed six goals on 20 shots in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Blues.

It was a rough night for Luukkonen, who allowed three goals in the first period in the eventual 6-4 defeat. The 24-year-old netminder had been playing well prior to Thursday's outing, going 3-1-0 with a .942 save percentage in his previous five appearances. Luukkonen is now 6-4-1 with a .905 save percentage on the campaign. Eric Comrie will likely get the start Saturday when the Sabres visit the Hurricanes.

  • Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Slated to face Blues

Luukkonen is expected to start on the road against St. Louis on Thursday, per Matthew DeFranks of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Luukkonen will go for his fourth straight win after stopping 80 of 85 shots (.941 save percentage) over his last three contests. Through 11 appearances this season, he's 6-3-1 with a 2.54 GAA and a .918 save percentage. The Blues rank 25th offensively this campaign with 2.86 goals per game.

  • Sabres' Zemgus Girgensons: Designated week-to-week

Girgensons (lower body) is considered week-to-week, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.

Girgensons went on injured reserve Saturday after suffering the injury Friday versus the Penguins. The 29-year-old's current status suggests he is unlikely to be available when first eligible to return this Saturday. Isak Rosen has gotten a look in the lineup with Girgensons out of action.

  • Sabres' Jack Quinn: Could return in January

Quinn (Achilles) is expected to be ready to play around the start of the new year, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.

Quinn started skating in mid-November, but he's still not expected to return for over a month. The 22-year-old underwent surgery in June, and it appears he may be out a little longer than the initial 4-6 month timeline he was given.

  • Sabres' Tage Thompson: Still week-to-week

Thompson (upper body) is progressing well but remains week-to-week, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.

"Hopefully he's on the shorter end of the timeline but still a little ways away. But definitely in a good spot," general manager Kevyn Adams said Wednesday when asked about Thompson's status. It's unlikely he'll be available in the near term. When Thompson begins practicing again, his timeline should become clearer. Adams added that the 26-year-old center's absence is likely to be less than two months. Thompson was injured Nov. 14.

  • Sabres' Jiri Kulich: Returns to AHL

Kulich was reassigned to AHL Rochester on Wednesday.

Kulich made his NHL debut in Saturday's 7-2 loss to New Jersey. He had a minus-1 rating and one shot in 14:53 of ice time during that contest. Kulich also has 11 goals and 17 points in 16 outings with AHL Rochester in 2022-23.

  • Sabres' Jordan Greenway: Available Thursday

Greenway (personal) will be an option to play Thursday against St. Louis, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.

Greenway has missed the Sabres' last three games for personal reasons. He has two goals, six points, 19 PIM, 28 hits and 19 blocks in 19 contests this season. If he draws back into the lineup Thursday, it will likely be in a middle-six capacity. Defenseman Henri Jokiharju, who dressed in Monday's 5-1 win over the Rangers as the seventh blueliner and a member of the fourth line, might be a healthy scratch versus the Blues.

  • Sabres' Brandon Biro: Summoned from AHL

Biro was called up by Buffalo on Wednesday, per Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News.

Biro has six goals and 12 points in 10 contests with AHL Rochester in 2023-24. He's also appeared in two games with Buffalo this season, providing two goals over that span.

  • Sabres' Devon Levi: Sent to AHL Rochester

Levi was loaned to AHL Rochester on Tuesday.

Levi has posted a 3-4-1 record this season with a 3.73 GAA and an .876 save percentage in nine appearances. He will get a chance to play regularly at the AHL level before possibly returning to the Sabres down the line. With Levi out of the NHL picture for now, Eric Comrie is projected to serve as Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen's backup. Luukkonen, who is riding a three-game win streak, should be able to string together some starts.

  • Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Holds Rangers to one goal

Luukkonen turned aside 25 of 26 shots in a 5-1 win over the Rangers on Monday.

Luukkonen's shutout bid was ended by Mika Zibanejad, who scored on the power play midway through the third period. Nevertheless, Luukkonen can count this as the latest in a string of great performances -- he's allowed just five goals on 99 shots (.949 save percentage) over his last four appearances. Through 11 contests this year, the goaltender has a 6-3-1 record, 2.54 GAA and .918 save percentage.

  • Sabres' Owen Power: Collects two assists in win

Power recorded two assists in a 5-1 win over the Rangers on Monday.

Power had a quiet stretch offensively from Nov. 3-Nov. 24 in which he registered three assists over 10 outings, but he seems to be heating back up with three helpers over his last two games. The 21-year-old defenseman is a key part of the Sabres' defense, entering Monday's action averaging 22:47 of ice time per game, but he's not as much of an offensive threat from the blue line as teammate Rasmus Dahlin. Power will still chip in on a semi-regular basis, though. He has a goal and 12 points through 22 outings this year, and that's a scoring pace he should be able to maintain.

  • Sabres' Alex Tuch: Tallies two goals in victory

Tuch netted two goals in a 5-1 win over the Rangers on Monday.

Tuch's first goal, which came late in the second period, put the Sabres up 2-0 and proved to be the game-winner. He's on a three-game scoring streak with three goals and five points over that span. Through 19 outings this campaign, Tuch has eight goals and 16 points. That's somewhat off from his 79-point showing in 2022-23, but Tuch also recorded just 88 points in 147 appearances from 2019-20 through 2021-22, so it's not unreasonable that he's seen some decline compared to last year's highs.

  • Sabres' John-Jason Peterka: Scores against Rangers

Peterka found the back of the net in a 5-1 win over the Rangers on Monday.

Peterka opened the scoring with his marker midway through the first period. It was his ninth goal and 17th point in 22 appearances this season. The 21-year-old struggled at the start of the campaign, supplying just two goals over his first seven contests, but since then, Peterka hasn't been held off the scoresheet in consecutive games.

  • Sabres' Victor Olofsson: Gets two helpers Monday

Olofsson registered two assists in a 5-1 win over the Rangers on Monday.

Olofsson earned his third multi-point game over his last four contests and his fourth over seven games. His recent hot spell is in stark contrast to his run of one assist through his first nine outings of 2023-24. Olofsson is serving in a middle-six capacity and isn't likely to be elevated beyond that role for any substantial period. That makes it a bit unlikely the 28-year-old will be able to maintain his recent offensive success long term.

  • Sabres' Casey Mittelstadt: On five-game point streak

Mittelstadt collected a goal and two assists in a 5-1 victory over the Rangers on Monday.

Mittelstadt supplied the primary helper on both of Alex Tuch's goals before helping himself to an empty-net marker late in the third period. Mittelstadt is on a five-game scoring streak, providing a goal and seven points over that stretch. That brings him up to four markers and 20 points in 22 outings this campaign. Mittelstadt entered Monday's action averaging 18:07 of ice time in 2023-24, which is way up from his 2022-23 average of 15:44. As long as he continues to serve in such a big role, the 25-year-old has a solid shot of surpassing his career high of 59 points.

  • Sabres' Kyle Okposo: Nets goal for third straight game

Okposo provided a goal in a 5-1 victory over the Rangers on Monday.

Okposo had no goals and three assists over his first 19 contests this season, but he's found his scoring touch recently, supplying a tally in each of his last three contests. His latest marker came in the dying seconds of Monday's game to punctuate Buffalo's 5-1 win. Although Okposo's hot right now, not a lot is expected of him offensively at the age of 35. He had just 28 points in 75 appearances last year.

  • Sabres' Mattias Samuelsson: Good to go Monday

Samuelsson (upper body) is in Monday's lineup against the Rangers, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.

Samuelsson suffered a minor injury Saturday against the Devils, but he'll be back in the lineup without missing any time. The 23-year-old is averaging 19:27 of ice time per contest this season but has been held to just three points through 18 games.
